Data Governance Consultant (Job Opening No. 261380)
Job Responsibilities – Brief Description
The Consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Lead the implementation of a data governance initiative in collaboration with the Data Analytics and Business Applications (DABA) Team and various OIM business units.
• Liaise with stakeholders across Investment Management, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Procurement, Business Applications, Operations, and IT to ensure alignment throughout the project.
• Define project scope, create a detailed work plan, and provide functional expertise through all phases of implementation.
• Assess and map the existing data governance structure, including data domains, roles, ownership, and stewardship.
• Evaluate compatibility of current governance roles with broader initiatives such as the Data Warehouse, AI readiness, and Centre of Excellence for analytics.
• Review and assess existing and proposed data governance tools and platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Snowflake), providing recommendations on suitability, integration, and metadata management.
• Support schema and data architecture alignment across platforms, ensuring consistency and discoverability of enterprise-wide datasets.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of a centralized data inventory and reporting catalogue, ensuring traceability across sources, transformations, and uses.
• Enhance the organization's data classification standards (e.g., PII, confidential, public) and recommend scalable data quality audit frameworks.
• Review third-party data usage, entitlements, and contractual obligations, and propose improvements to external data governance.
• Facilitate interactive workshops, stakeholder engagement sessions, and targeted training to build institutional capabilities and data stewardship awareness.
• Deliver a comprehensive governance roadmap and strategic recommendations to guide long-term data and technology alignment efforts.
• Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
Applicants must clearly address the following criteria in their application:
• Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business, computer science, data management, or a related field is required. A first-level degree with relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience developing and implementing data governance frameworks and policies is required.
• Demonstrated success leading cross-functional data governance initiatives in complex environments is essential.
• Experience with investment management data processes—particularly in Equities, Fixed Income, and Private Assets—is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to assess, recommend, and implement data governance technologies such as Collibra, Informatica, or Snowflake.
• Experience creating or managing metadata repositories, data catalogues, and data quality frameworks is required.
• Strong ability to translate business needs into governance requirements and technical specifications.
• Experience designing and delivering data stewardship training and workshops for a range of stakeholders.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to influence and drive change across functions.
• A customer-service mindset and ability to build collaborative relationships at all organizational levels.
