Role description
Data Migration Engineer – SQL Server to Snowflake & Matillion for a Finance Data Platform

Meet with business stakeholders to understand how they currently use the system, including day-to-day workflows, reports, and decision-making processes.
Document current business use cases, dependencies, and expectations from the data platform.
Act as a liaison between business users and the technical team to ensure requirements are clearly understood and translated.
1. Data Feed Assessment & Gap Analysis
Review existing data feeds currently available in Snowflake (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite).
Identify missing or incomplete data feeds required to support business workflows.
Perform gap analysis between the current environment and Snowflake to determine additional ingestion or transformation needs.
Define requirements for building or enhancing data feeds to close identified gaps.
1. Data Object & Logic Replication

Ensure equivalent logic is replicated in Snowflake with consistent behavior.
Validate record counts, data accuracy, and output consistency between source and Snowflake environments.
Support testing and reconciliation efforts to ensure parity during migration.
1. Migration Support & Collaboration
Work closely with the core engineering and data teams throughout the migration process.
Help ensure a smooth transition from the legacy environment to Snowflake with minimal disruption to business users.
1. Project Enablement & Knowledge Transfer
Document findings, assumptions, and decisions to support long-term maintainability.
Assist in knowledge transfer to internal teams to ensure post-migration self-sufficiency.
Support adoption by ensuring business users are confident in the Snowflake-based solution.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong experience with Snowflake for data storage, querying, and validation
Hands-on experience with SQL Server (on-prem, preferably SQL Server 2016)
Advanced SQL skills, including stored procedures and views
Experience rebuilding and migrating data pipelines (not just lift-and-shift)
ETL & Data Integration

Ability to identify missing data feeds and build new integrations
Experience working with multiple inbound data sources
Finance & Source Systems (Preferred)
