Role description
Senior Data Protection and Storage Administrator
Position Overview
This role is for a mid-to-senior-level Data Protection Administrator responsible for managing a large and diverse enterprise environment, supporting Unix, Windows, and ESX servers. The administrator will handle backup, restore, and storage solutions, ensuring reliability, performance, and compliance across critical business systems. This position requires participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation, including some weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Collaborate with Linux and Windows administrators to troubleshoot backup and restore issues.
β’ Install, patch, and upgrade Spectrum Protect and Veritas NetBackup products.
β’ Perform daily administration and monitoring of backups for NetApp NAS, VMware, and physical servers.
β’ Manage operational tasks such as:
β’ Installing and setting up data protection software
β’ Performing periodic patching and upgrades
β’ Generating on-demand backup reports
β’ Responding to audit and compliance requests
β’ Handle support tickets related to backup, restore, and scheduling changes.
β’ Administer and maintain disk and tape hardware, including EMC Data Domain and LTO tape drives.
β’ Serve as a liaison with vendors to resolve technical issues and escalate complex problems.
β’ Act as an escalation point for Unix and Windows backup troubleshooting.
Required Skills and Expertise
β’ Deep expertise in:
β’ Tivoli Spectrum Protect (TSM)
β’ Veritas NetBackup (including NetBackup Appliance and SLP)
β’ Veeam
β’ EMC Data Domain
β’ NDMP
β’ Tape Library
β’ Strong skills with Linux, Windows, VMware, and relational databases (Oracle, MSSQL, Sybase).
Preferred Skills
β’ Proficiency with Linux/Unix command line, shell scripting, and Python programming.
β’ Experience with API programming for automation and integration.
β’ Working knowledge of SAN and NAS technologies.
β’ Familiarity with cyber recovery and air-gap solutions for enhanced data protection.
