Role description
Data Scientists – Central Government £700-900 Inside IR35 SC Clearance We're working on a number of high-profile, complex data programmes within a large Central Government department and we're looking for experienced Data Scientists who are ready to get their hands dirty on work that matters. These are senior roles requiring proven delivery in demanding environments. You'll be embedded in teams working across large-scale, sensitive datasets where the quality of your analysis directly informs consequential decisions. Active SC Clearance is mandatory. We cannot consider applications without it. Responsibilities: • Design and deliver end-to-end data science solutions across complex, multi-stakeholder programmes • Apply statistical modelling, machine learning, predictive modelling, clustering and classification techniques to large-scale government datasets • Build and maintain data visualisations and dashboards that communicate insight clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences • Translate analytical outputs into actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders and decision-makers • Work closely with data engineers, architects, and policy teams to ensure solutions are robust and production-ready • Contribute to data strategy and help establish best practice What we're looking for: • 5+ years of hands-on data science experience, with demonstrable delivery in complex or regulated environments • Strong Python and/or Java; comfortable working with large, messy, real-world datasets • Deep understanding of predictive modelling, machine learning, clustering and classification techniques, and algorithms • Experience with data visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent) • Confident communicator — able to present methodology and findings at senior level • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similar) • Public sector or government experience is a strong advantage • Active SC Clearance (essential) If you have the relevant experience and want to work on programmes with genuine scale and impact, get in touch.
