Role description
We accept C2C, W2 and Intendant Contractors for this job. The Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Data Scientist is a position required based on uncovered needs while working with the CJIS Analytics Subcommittee. This position will be responsible for delivering measurable impact through data-driven initiatives, deploying reliable models that improve business KPIs, providing clear, actionable recommendations to the subcommittee, and contributing towards building a scalable data science infrastructure.
β’ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:- Assist users to translate business challenges into data science problems and analytical solutions- Collect, clean, and pre-process large structured and unstructured datasets- Assist to develop, validate, and deploy machine learning models- Assist to perform statistical analysis and hypothesis testing- Assist in designing and analyzing A/B experiments- Assist in building predictive and prescriptive models- Communicate insights clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders- Collaborate with data engineers to produce models- Assist in monitoring model performance and retrain as necessary- Contribute to data science best practices and documentation
β’ REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Data Scientist
β’ Bachelorβs or Masterβs degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field
β’ 2+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or machine learning (adjust based on level)
β’ Strong proficiency in Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn)
β’ Experience with SQL and relational databases
β’ Solid understanding of statistics and probability
β’ Experience building and validating ML models (classification, regression, clustering and neural networks)
β’ Experience working with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
β’ Experience working with large datasets
β’ REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
β’ Experience with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch)
β’ Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure)
β’ Knowledge of MLOps tools (MLflow, Airflow, Docker)
β’ Experience deploying models into various SDLC environments
β’ Domain experience in Criminal Justice Agencies would be a plus
β’ Strong problem solving and analytical thinking
β’ Excellent communication and presentation skills
β’ Ability to translate complex results into business insights
β’ Self-starter with strong ownership mindset
β’ Collaborative and team-oriented
ADMINISTRATIVE CONSIDERATIONS: Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM - Includes teleworking but attending in-person meetings when needed. State Resources and Oversight: Workstation and supervision by CJIS Program Manager Security/Privacy Considerations: Pass Background Investigation, sign confidentiality statement General Miscellaneous: All work product property of the CJIS Governing Board. Travel not included.
