Role description
Job Title: Data Scientist
Location: Onsite daily in either Las Vegas, NV or Des Moines, IA
Duration: 6 Month Contract to Hire
Role Overview: Seeking a Data Scientist to join a small, collaborative team focused on asset management analytics for utility operations (gas, electric generation, distribution, renewables, pipelines, thermal). The team uses Azure-based technologies and supports multiple projects with end-to-end ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
• This role is instrumental in driving data-driven decision-making across the organization, with a strong focus on leveraging Microsoft Azure as the core data and analytics platform. The ideal candidate will have a passion for solving complex business problems using data science techniques and cloud-native tools.
• Supporting analytics projects in asset management, including performance analytics, fault analytics, investment optimization, and predictive modeling.
• Collaborate closely with business SMEs, data engineers, and other team members to understand operational challenges and translate them into data-driven solutions.
• Own project delivery from data exploration to model deployment, ensuring solutions are practical and aligned with business needs.
• Remain flexible to contribute across data engineering, data science, and AI engineering tasks as needed.
• Participate in daily team check-ins, process improvement discussions, and ongoing learning about utility asset operations.
Technical Skills:
• 2-5 Years of Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services, including (
• Will Also Consider Resources with AWS Related Tools):
• Azure Machine Learning
• Azure Data Factory
• Azure Databricks
• Azure DevOps
• Proficiency in Python similar programming languages.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-scale data sets.
• Experience with version control (e.g., Git) and Agile development practices
• Experience with RAG-based applications, Azure Foundry, Azure Search, and Document Intelligence is a plus.
• Familiarity with asset management or utility industry data is preferred but not required.
Soft Skills:
• Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to work closely with team members and business stakeholders.
• Willingness to learn new domains and adapt to evolving project needs.
