Role description
Job Title: Data Scientist Location: Hybrid from building Bear Creek A in Redmond, WA Contract on W2 Duration: 18 months Top IT Firm Typical Day in the Role • Purpose of the Team: The purpose of this team is performing data science and data analysis within a large gaming studio for various business needs. • Key projects: This role will contribute to analyzing data from marketing and engineering teams, then making recommendations based on the results of marketing A/B tests and evaluate the impact of evergreen campaigns on key metrics. This role will develop and lead analysis that identify key drivers of monetization, engagement, and retention for a large AAA gaming studio. o Typical task breakdown and operating rhythm: The role will consist of analyzing the results of lifecycle marketing campaigns and creating presentations highlighting insights that will drive improvements in future campaigns and highlight where to invest Compelling Story & Candidate Value Proposition o What makes this role interesting? - This role provides the opportunity to work with a great team of data scientists that are working on one of best and most well-known games in the industry. Candidate Requirements • Years of Experience Required: 7+ overall years of experience in the field. • Degrees or certifications required: No degree is required to be eligible for this role. • Disqualifiers: None • Best vs. Average: The ideal resume would contain previous experience as a data scientist with working on marketing campaigns in the gaming industry. Previous experience building and maintaining causal inference frameworks/pipelines is a big plus. o Performance Indicators: Performance will be assessed based on quality of recommendations provided to stakeholders and the impact of decisions made by those stakeholders. Top 3 Hard Skills Required + Years of Experience 1. Minimum 5 years experience with SQL & Python skills 1. Minimum 5 years experience with presenting data and insights to stakeholders 1. Minimum 3 years experience with creating dashboards for data, preferably in PowerBI Hard Skills Assessments • Expected Dates that Hard Skills Assessments will be scheduled: ASA week of 2/23. • Hard Skills Assessment Process: The assessment process will include likely 2 rounds, one with the sponsor and a second round with another member of the team. • Required Candidate Preparation: Candidates should be able to describe their previous related work history, and demonstrate their skills during the assessments. Summary: In this role, you will be responsible for driving insights that inform our Player Lifecycle Marketing efforts. You’ll partner with marketing and engineering teams to ensure a robust pipeline from database to reporting for Player Lifecycle marketing campaigns. You will analyze and make recommendations on the results of marketing A/B tests and evaluate the impact of evergreen campaigns on key metrics. You will develop and lead analysis that identify key drivers of monetization, engagement, and retention. Responsibilities • Perform data exploration, profiling and proof-of-concept table creation to assist engineering partners in building and improving the production data environment. • Maintain and improve dashboards in Power BI that enable stakeholders to understand the impact of specific campaigns as well as the broader Player Lifecycle Messaging (PLM) impact. • Build and maintain causal inference frameworks • Provide analysis and recommendations on how to best optimize campaigns for player engagement, retention, and post-sale monetization, with clear prioritization of “what to do next” with expected impact. o Synthesize insight narratives: Turn analyses into clear, decision-ready narratives that connect activity to gaming business outcomes (e.g., engagement, retention, Marketplace/Realms monetization), answering What happened? Why? So what? Now what? o Executive-ready communication: Produce clear readouts (deck-ready visuals, annotated dashboards, short written summaries) that communicate the “throughline” from campaign setup → player behavior change → business implication—tailored to technical and non-technical audiences. o Create shared understanding of the funnel: Help stakeholders understand how performance fits into the broader game ecosystem by building and socializing lifecycle frameworks, and by clarifying tradeoffs (e.g., engagement vs. monetization impacts). o Communicate clearly across disciplines: Provide clear, consistent, and concise communication with varied stakeholders • Conduct analysis to identify statistically significant impact from campaigns and provide recommendations tests to add to the roadmap • Synthesize campaign results into recommendations for stakeholders, clearly communicating assumptions, limitations, and confidence in results • Collaborate with marketing, PM, and engineering stakeholders to define success metrics, measurement plans, and instrumentation needs for campaigns and lifecycle initiatives. • Provide clear, consistent and concise communication and presentation with varied stakeholders including data engineer, PM and marketing partners. Qualifications • 5 years of experience in data analytics, including data profiling, table creation and marketing analytics. • 5 years of experience with SQL, bonus if familiar with SparkSQL, Databricks, or Azure Data Explorer. • 3 years of experience with dashboarding tools, Power BI preferred. • Experience with marketing tools such as Braze, Salesforce, CleverTap • Proficient in Python, bonus if familiar with PySpark. • Able to work in a collaborative, diverse and fast-paced team. • Excellent analytical, and problem-solving skills and autonomy when faced with solving data problems. • Excellent verbal, visual and written communication skills. • Insight synthesis & business framing: Demonstrated ability to translate complex analyses into clear insights, implications, and recommendations—not just charts—tailored to the audience. • Data visualization & narrative clarity: Strong visual communication skills: chooses the right chart/story structure, highlights drivers, quantifies impact, and makes results easy to interpret (including clear caveats). • Stakeholder-ready outputs: Comfortable presenting findings and writing succinct narratives (one-pagers, experiment readouts, QBR summaries), with a consistent “data → insight → action” structure. • Interest in games, bonus if experience in gaming industry. • Local to Seattle area.
