Position Summary
The Data Systems Specialist provides part-time, contract support focused on the configuration, maintenance, and day-to-day functionality of CSC Leon’s Services and Activities Management Information System (SAMIS), as well as supporting internal data coordination and reporting needs. This role is responsible for ensuring that SAMIS is structured to accurately capture required data, that users are supported in its use, and that data outputs are accessible and usable for internal reporting purposes.
The position reports to the Director of Special Projects and works collaboratively with CSC Leon team members across programmatic and administrative functions.
Core Responsibilities
SAMIS Configuration and System Management:
• Configure and maintain SAMIS to support accurate and consistent data collection aligned with CSC Leon’s performance measures and reporting needs.
• Set up and modify data fields, forms, and reporting structures within the system to reflect program requirements and contract expectations.
• Ensure system functionality supports efficient data entry, tracking, and report generation across funded programs.
• Manage and respond to SAMIS-related inquiries, serving as the primary point of contact for the SAMIS help desk. Troubleshoot user issues and coordinate resolutions as needed.
Data Coordination and Quality Control:
• Support the collection and organization of data from multiple sources, including program submissions and surveys.
• Review datasets for completeness and accuracy, identifying and addressing issues such as missing data, duplicates, and inconsistencies.
• Maintain organized data structures that support reliable reporting and system integrity.
Reporting and Data Visualization:
• Develop clear and user-friendly reports and visualizations (charts, graphs, dashboards) to support internal understanding of key metrics.
• Assist staff in accessing and utilizing data outputs for routine reporting and presentations.
• Ensure reports generated through SAMIS and other tools are accurate, timely, and aligned with defined reporting requirements.
Training and Technical Assistance:
• Provide training and ongoing support to CSC Leon staff and, as needed, funded partners on the use of SAMIS, including data entry, report generation, and basic system navigation.
• Develop and maintain user guides and reference materials to support consistent system use.
• Offer responsive technical assistance to ensure users are able to effectively utilize the system and meet reporting expectations.
Required Competencies
• System Configuration and Management: Ability to set up and maintain data systems that support program tracking and reporting.
• Data Quality and Attention to Detail: Ability to identify and resolve data integrity issues and maintain accurate datasets.
• Technical Proficiency: Comfort working within database systems and managing structured data environments.
• Communication: Ability to clearly explain system processes and data outputs to non-technical users.
• Customer Support Orientation: Ability to provide responsive, solutions-focused support to internal staff and partners.
• Organization and Reliability: Ability to manage ongoing system needs and respond to requests in a timely and consistent manner.
Preferred Competencies
• Experience working with management information systems (MIS), particularly in a human services, nonprofit, or government setting.
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms).
• Experience supporting system users through training or help desk functions.
• Familiarity with performance measurement frameworks or program reporting environments.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in information systems, data management, public administration, or a related field, and at least one year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working Conditions and Structure
This is a part-time, contract position with an expected workload of approximately 20 hours per week. The position operates in a hybrid environment, with a regular on-site presence required during CSC Leon’s standard office hours.
Compensation
This is a part-time, contract position with an expected workload of approximately 20 hours per week. Compensation is $22–$25 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is not eligible for benefits. The contractor is responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes and is not considered an employee of CSC Leon.
