Data Visualization Specialist Job Summary:
Weβre seeking a Data Visualization Specialist to lead the creation of data-driven visualizations and interactive stories for a well-established and world-renowned Association. The ideal candidate is a full-stack visual journalist with strong data analysis skills and front-end development experience. You should be adept at translating complex data (both structured and unstructured) into accessible visuals, and eager to experiment with new formats and tools.
This is a fully remote position, but you must currently reside in MD, VA, DC, MA, OH, MO, TN, IN, TX, FL, NC, AL, GA or OK. Applicants currently residing in other states will not be considered.
Data Visualization Specialist Responsibilities:
β’ Collaborate with editorial and creative teams, conceptualize and develop data-driven stories and interactives focused on research, trends, and breakthroughs.
β’ Create and edit graphics and visuals, including charts, maps, infographics, and interactive data tools.
β’ Collaborate with writers, editors, and subject-matter experts to ensure accuracy and clarity.
β’ Refine existing data visualizations, looking for ways to improve accuracy and accessibility.
β’ Source, clean, and analyze datasets from journals, databases, and public repositories.
β’ Train staff in data visualization development, best practices for analyzing datasets and developing tools to
β’ Contribute to the development of a consistent visual style and storytelling approach across the publication.
β’ Ensure accessibility standards are met in all visualizations, including color contrast, keyboard navigation, and screen reader support.
β’ Document repeatable workflows and templates for use in future projects.
Data Visualization Specialist Qualifications:
β’ 3+ years of data visualization experience required.
β’ Must have work samples that clearly depicts your ability to synthesize large, complex data sets into compelling, and sometime interactive, visualizations.
β’ Proficiency in modern web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git).
β’ Strong data analysis skills using tools such as Python, R, SQL, or similar.
β’ Experience with data visualization libraries and platforms, such as Datawrapper, D3.js, Flourish, QGIS
β’ Experience working with or within a CMS or component-based publishing system (experience with Adobe AEM is a plus).
β’ Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, engaging visuals.
β’ Familiarity with accessibility standards for data visualization and digital publishing.
β’ Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
β’ Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail.
