This position supports the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI) database environment.
The database environment includes:
β’ Multiple SQL Server instances
β’ Multiple Collection Environments (Development, Quality Assurance/Testing, Pre-Release, and Production)
β’ Numerous SQL Reporting Services Servers
β’ 35+ collection databases
β’ 100+ analysis databases
β’ This position is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the modernization to Power BI reporting and requires considerable independent judgment directing and coordinating the appropriate data administration and management methods, practices, procedures and tools, to complete the required assignments.
β’ Expertise is required in Microsoft SQL Server database support, and professional knowledge in the PowerBI platform as well as SAS will be required
β’ We are seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented data professional to join our team on a temporary basis.
β’ This role is responsible for working directly with business users to understand how Power BI is currently utilized, including identifying the data sources, databases, and tables supporting existing dashboards and reports.
β’ A key focus of this position is to analyze and convert complex SAS programs into optimized SQL code that integrates seamlessly with Power BI, while ensuring accuracy, performance, and adherence to best practices in data management.
β’ The ideal candidate will possess strong experience with SAS, SQL, and Power BI tools, including Power Query and DAX.
β’ They will be adept at documenting current-state processes, identifying opportunities for automation or efficiency, and developing sustainable data pipelines and models.
β’ Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders are essential, along with a proactive, customer-focused approach.

Description of work:
β’ Top 3 skills needed: Power BI Desktop, Power Query, DAX, and PowerBook tools experience, SQL Database ETL experience, SAS and SQL Data Modeling
β’ Collaborate with customers to understand current use of Power BI, including identifying key dashboards, reports, and underlying data sources and tables.
β’ Review and analyze existing SAS programs to convert them to optimized SQL code suitable for Power BI reporting.
β’ Apply advanced SAS and SQL knowledge to ensure logic accuracy, performance optimization, and consistency across data platforms.
β’ Assess and document current data processes, recommending improvements and automation opportunities that align with best practices.
β’ Work with stakeholders to identify data sources, ETL processes, and transformation logic critical for reporting needs.
β’ Build and maintain robust, sustainable data pipelines with a focus on clarity, performance, and long-term maintainability.
β’ Leverage Power BI Desktop, Power Query, DAX, and PowerBook tools to support data modeling, development, and visualization.
β’ Apply strong problem-solving skills to debug, validate, and optimize ETL and data transformation processes.
β’ Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, documenting processes and collaborating across teams.
β’ Work independently in a contract/temporary role while delivering high-quality work with accuracy, attention to detail, and a customer-focused mindset.
