Position Overview:
This position supports the database environment of the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI). The environment consists of:
β’ Multiple SQL Server instances
β’ Multiple collection environments, including Development, QA/Testing, Pre-Release, and Production
β’ Numerous SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) servers
β’ 35+ collection databases
β’ 100+ analysis databases
This role serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for CEPI s modernization initiative transitioning to Power BI reporting. It requires a high level of independent judgment in managing and coordinating data administration methods, tools, and best practices. Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, Power BI, and SAS is essential.
We are seeking a technically proficient, detail-oriented data professional to join our team on a contract basis. The successful candidate will engage directly with business users to assess current Power BI utilization, including data sources, databases, and tables supporting existing dashboards and reports.
A primary focus of this position is the analysis and conversion of complex SAS programs into optimized SQL code that integrates seamlessly with Power BI, ensuring data accuracy, performance, and compliance with best practices.
Responsibilities:
β’ Collaborate with users to analyze the current use of Power BI, identifying key dashboards, reports, and underlying data sources.
β’ Review, analyze, and convert existing SAS programs into efficient, well-structured SQL code for Power BI reporting.
β’ Apply advanced SAS and SQL expertise to ensure accurate logic, performance optimization, and cross-platform consistency.
β’ Document and assess current data workflows and recommend improvements or automation opportunities.
β’ Identify key data sources, ETL processes, and transformation logic essential to business reporting.
β’ Build and maintain robust, sustainable data pipelines focusing on clarity, performance, and maintainability.
β’ Use Power BI Desktop, Power Query, DAX, and PowerBook tools for data modeling, report development, and visualization.
β’ Diagnose, debug, and optimize ETL and data transformation issues.
β’ Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
β’ Deliver high-quality, accurate work independently in a contract role, with a strong attention to detail and a customer-focused approach.
