We are seeking an experienced Database Developer to support the design, development, and maintenance of complex relational databases for an Integrated Justice Portal project based in Albany, NY. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SQL development, database architecture, and performance optimization, and will be comfortable working across all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement relational database structures based on use cases, business requirements, and flow diagrams.
Apply Integrated Justice Portal standards and best practices in all phases of database development.
Develop efficient and complex SQL queries, functions, and stored procedures for data extraction and manipulation using Oracle or SQL Server.
Create and maintain batch processes and scheduled jobs to support daily business workflows.
Follow the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation, and maintenance.
Perform ongoing production support, including system monitoring, issue troubleshooting, performance tuning, and user support.
Collaborate with developers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure database design aligns with business logic and performance expectations.
Ensure database security, integrity, and compliance with internal and external standards.
Research and recommend emerging technologies and tools that can improve performance, reliability, and maintainability of database solutions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
7+ years of professional experience as a Database Developer or Database Engineer.
Expertise in SQL and one or more relational database management systems, such as Oracle or SQL Server.
Strong experience in stored procedure and function development, query optimization, and performance tuning.
Demonstrated experience in batch processing and scheduling tools (e.g., Oracle Scheduler, SQL Server Agent).
Familiarity with data modeling techniques, ER diagrams, and database normalization.
Hands-on experience with SDLC methodologies and agile development environments.
Ability to interpret and apply business requirements and flow diagrams into database design and logic.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working on criminal justice or public safety systems is highly desirable.
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD practices.
Exposure to ETL processes, data warehousing, or BI/reporting tools is a plus.
Understanding of data governance, privacy regulations, and security protocols in a government environment.
Work Environment:
This position is based onsite in Albany, NY. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams including software developers, business analysts, project managers, and system users to deliver mission-critical solutions that support justice system operations.
