Location: London - Hybrid - 2 to 3 days per week onsite
Start day: ASAP
Contractor rate: TBC, likely in the region of £500 - £550 per day inside IR35
Duration: 6 months initially
Role Summary
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Datadog Developer to support a major UK client. You will work across engineering, SRE, DevOps and cloud teams to elevate observability in modern, cloud‑native and microservices environments. The role is hands‑on, embedding telemetry into the SDLC, improving reliability and driving data‑backed performance insights.
Key Responsibilities
Datadog Platform Engineering
• Implement end‑to‑end observability across metrics, logs, traces, RUM, synthetics and events.
• Build dashboards, service maps and business‑journey views.
• Configure alerts, SLOs/SLIs and telemetry standards.
Developer Instrumentation
• Embed Datadog APM, OpenTelemetry and custom instrumentation across Java/.NET/Python/Node.js.
• Build reusable instrumentation libraries and tagging models.
• Support shift‑left observability in CI/CD.
Cloud & Kubernetes Observability
• Monitor AWS/Azure/GCP services.
• Enable deep Kubernetes visibility (EKS/AKS/GKE, OpenShift).
• Optimise ingestion, sampling and cost.
Automation & Integration
• Automate config with Python, REST APIs, Terraform and CI/CD.
• Integrate with ServiceNow, PagerDuty and incident tooling.
Performance & Reliability
• Run performance analysis, RCA and resilience improvements.
• Support post‑incident reviews and continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement
• Act as Datadog SME for UK client teams.
• Lead workshops, documentation and knowledge transfer.
Essential Skills
• Strong Datadog experience across APM, Infra, Logs, RUM, Synthetics and Monitors.
• Programming in Java, Python, .NET or Node.js.
• OpenTelemetry & distributed tracing.
• Cloud‑native, microservices and Kubernetes expertise.
• Solid CI/CD and DevOps foundations.
Experience
• 6–10+ years in software engineering, SRE or observability roles.
• Enterprise‑scale exposure (preferably BFSI).
• Onsite / client‑facing experience in the UK or Europe.
Desirable
• Datadog certifications.
• Experience migrating from AppDynamics / Dynatrace / ELK / New Relic.
• Exposure to AIOps, SRE and event correlation tooling.
