Design Engineer

Job Title: Design System Solutions Engineer Location: New York City, NY Duration: Long Term Scope of Services: • The Design System Solutions Engineer will be responsible for defining, creating, and documenting the process for building, testing, and delivering the NYC Design System — a multi-package monorepo leveraged by internal engineering teams and external vendors to develop consistent, high-quality digital experiences. Key Tasks & Responsibilities • Define, create, and document CI/CD processes for the NYC Design System • Set up testing and staging environments • Measure and monitor system performance (asset sizes, server load, response times) • Manage versioning and release processes • Implement front-end automated testing (accessibility, visual regression, unit testing) • Prepare documentation and perform hand-off of processes for engineering teams • Provide local development support for design system developers Mandatory Skills & Qualifications • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders • Proven experience in building delivery pipelines that include unit testing, automation, and release management for a multi-package monorepo used across at least five (5) websites • 5+ years of full-stack development experience • 2+ years of experience with Cloud service DevOps • 1+ year of experience with Azure DevOps Desirable Skills • Experience setting up Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for scalable environments • Hands-on experience with GitHub Enterprise • Familiarity with application and service endpoint monitoring • Experience with automated documentation generation • Knowledge of asset storage and distribution optimization (e.g., CDN, minification, packaging) • Commitment to security by design principles
