Design Technologist

Payrate: $75.00 - $90.00/hr. Responsibilities: • Build and iterate interactive, multi-device prototypes that connect in-store screens, mobile devices, and backend data in a lab environment. • Integrate front-end software with hardware, sensors, and displays to bring physical-digital retail concepts to life. • Collaborate daily with UX Designers and a PM to translate concepts into working prototypes and assess technical feasibility. • Set up, troubleshoot, and operate prototypes on-site before and during user testing sessions. • Administer or support usability studies, guiding participants through tasks and capturing insights for iteration. • Use GenAI tools to accelerate prototyping, data setup, testing workflows, and analysis. • Maintain prototype quality, documentation, and demos to support ongoing experimentation and stakeholder reviews. Basic qualifications: • Available online portfolio • Experience developing visually polished, engaging, multi-user UX prototypes • Coding samples in front end programming languages • Deep knowledge of mobile prototyping using HTML/CSS/JS and Swift for iOS • 3+ years of front-end technologist, engineer, or UX prototyping experience • Experience using GenAI tools like Claude Code, Cline, Codex or similar • Experience collaborating with UX, Product, and technical partners Preferred experience: • Background in physical (real-world) and digital hybrid interaction design • Strong understanding of software architecture and system design • Proficiency with real-time prototyping frameworks • Experience prototyping with Client sensing and display technologies • Degree specializing in Human Computer Top three required technical skills: • Front-end prototyping and engineering (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Mobile Tech iOS/Swift) • Hardware and physical-digital intergration (sensors, displays, NFC) • Multi-device, real-time prototype development. Skills: • Hands-on builder, comfortable with hardware (connecting screens, mobile phones, sensors, backend data). • Familiarity replicating physical retail environments in a lab setting. • Strong problem-solver, high autonomy, self-motivated. • Comfort in a lab environment. • User research background helpful (may administer usability studies). • Front-end prototyping expertise. • Physical-digital interaction, multi-device, real-time prototyping skills. • Computer-human interaction background. Nice to Have Skills: • Experience working with prototypes in an innovation lab. • Openness to using Gen AI tools (not a requirement, but a bonus). Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $75.00 - $90.00/hr.  Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience and the benefits package you select.  Full-time employees are eligible to select from different benefits packages.  Packages may include medical, dental, and vision benefits, 10 paid days off, 401(k) plan participation, commuter benefits and life and disability insurance.
