Job Description 2: Software Development Engineer (SDE β Automation/DevOps)
Role Summary
As a Software Development Engineer (SDE) in the LENS-E engagement, you will develop, maintain, and enhance automation, monitoring, and DevOps pipelines to enable operational efficiency, reduce toil, and support sustained engineering initiatives. You will work closely with SREs and program leadership to deliver proactive solutions that align with SLAs/KPIs, while embedding modern practices such as AIOps for predictive monitoring.
Responsibilities
β’ Develop automation solutions to handle recurring tasks (cert renewal, patching, monitoring, telemetry collection).
β’ Build and enhance monitoring frameworks leveraging Azure Monitor, Kusto queries, and custom telemetry pipelines.
β’ Maintain and extend CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps) to improve deployment efficiency and resilience.
β’ Support sustained engineering efforts by developing tooling for backlog burndown, IcM repair items, and PIR-driven improvements.
β’ Contribute to dashboard development (Power BI, KQL) for SLA, KPI, and engineering efficiency reporting.
β’ Collaborate with SREs to implement AIOps-style proactive alerting and remediation playbooks.
β’ Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and cross-training to increase team capability.
β’ Document technical solutions, automation runbooks, and developer best practices.
Required Skills
β’ Strong programming background in C# .NET Core, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
β’ Experience with Azure DevOps pipelines, Git repositories, and backlog management.
β’ Proficiency with infrastructure as code (Bicep, ARM, Terraform) for environment updates and deployments.
β’ Strong knowledge of observability frameworks (KQL, App Insights, Log Analytics).
β’ Familiarity with AIOps concepts (event correlation, auto-remediation, anomaly detection).
β’ Experience building metrics and reporting dashboards (Power BI, custom visualizations).
β’ Ability to work in Agile/Scrum environments and deliver against sprint commitments.
