Job at a glance: This is a long-term contract, initial term of 12 months, with likelihood for contract extension or permanent conversion Remote position, with rare travel to Atlanta or NJ for in-person team meetings (client paid) Must work EST hours - only candidates living in EST and CST will be considered Eligible to sign up for benefits (health, vision, dental, and 401k) on day 1 Seeking candidates with strong experience in EDI, SQL, and using AI to improve processes and to improve EDI efficiency through intelligent automation and AI-assisted monitoring tools EDI Data Analyst Job Purpose The EDI Data Analyst is responsible for the design, development, optimization, and support of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems at Zelis Healthcare. This role ensures the accurate, secure, and efficient exchange of healthcare data between internal systems and external trading partners. In addition to core EDI responsibilities, the Analyst will leverage advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools to enhance transaction monitoring, automation, and data quality. The role serves as a liaison between business stakeholders, application development teams, database administrators, and trading partners to deliver scalable, high-quality data exchange solutions aligned with Zelis’ operational and strategic objectives. Essential Responsibilities EDI Systems & Operations Configure, implement, and maintain EDI systems and transaction workflows. Develop, enhance, and maintain ANSI X12 maps for inbound and outbound transactions (837, 834, 999, 277). Monitor EDI transactions, troubleshoot errors, and resolve data integrity issues. Coordinate with business application and database teams to ensure availability, reliability, and performance of EDI systems. Collaborate with trading partners to design, test, and implement secure electronic data exchanges. Support onboarding of new trading partners and implementation of file delivery enhancements. Maintain comprehensive system documentation and mapping specifications. Data Analysis & SQL Development Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers using Microsoft SQL Server. Perform data validation, reconciliation, and root cause analysis. Analyze transaction data to identify trends, performance gaps, and process improvement opportunities. Support ETL processes and data transformation initiatives. Automation & AI-Enabled Enhancements Identify opportunities to improve EDI efficiency through intelligent automation and AI-assisted monitoring tools. Utilize analytics-driven insights to enhance anomaly detection, error resolution, and transaction accuracy. Partner with technical teams to implement automation solutions that reduce manual intervention and improve operational scalability. Stay informed on emerging AI technologies relevant to healthcare data exchange and process optimization. Business & Collaboration Gather and document business and technical requirements. Participate in solution design, testing, and user acceptance validation. Develop user test plans and support execution. Provide end-user training and ongoing support. Promote adherence to corporate data standards, compliance requirements, and IS methodologies. Position Requirements Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Business, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum five (5) years of hands-on EDI experience. Minimum two (2) years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Management Studio. Strong working knowledge of ANSI X12 transaction sets including 837, 834, 999, and 277. Experience working in a HIPAA-compliant environment preferred. Exposure to automation tools, advanced analytics, or AI-driven data solutions is a plus. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proven experience implementing and supporting EDI systems. Strong SQL development and database troubleshooting skills. Experience with ETL processes and data transformation workflows. Solid understanding of EDI standards (ANSI X12, EDIFACT), XML, and EDI translation tools. Ability to develop detailed mapping specifications and technical documentation. Familiarity with AI-assisted analytics tools, scripting, or automation platforms is preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
