Role description
EMEA Data Privacy Manager (AI Focus) based in London. 6 month contract paying up to £500 a day PAYE
This role sits within the EMEA Compliance function of a global financial services organisation. It supports regional Data Protection Officers (DPOs) and the wider data privacy team on data protection, cross-border data movement and regulatory compliance matters, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.
The organisation operates across multiple international markets and provides a broad range of banking and financial services. The EMEA Compliance function is responsible for overseeing adherence to applicable laws, regulations and internal standards across the region.
The role is based in London and reports to the EMEA Head of Data Privacy.
The primary purpose of the role is to provide practical, risk-based data privacy advice to the business and to regional DPOs, particularly in relation to AI tools, advanced technologies and cross-border data transfers, while ensuring alignment with regional and global privacy frameworks. Key Responsibilities
• Provide clear, practical advice to business stakeholders, including business process owners, on data privacy, transparency and governance obligations related to AI and advanced technology systems, tools and processes.
• Determine the need for, advise on, review and support data-related assessments, including DPIAs, transfer risk assessments and cross-border data movement assessments, applying a risk-based approach.
• Identify data privacy risks associated with planned AI initiatives and advise on mitigation strategies, coordinating with global data privacy teams as required.
• Support the development and implementation of the EMEA data privacy and protection compliance programme, with particular focus on AI and emerging technology risk.
• Assist with strategic regional initiatives relating to data privacy and cross-border data movement.
• Support core programme activities including DPIA reviews, updates to privacy notices, maintenance of records of processing activities and advisory support on privacy incidents.
• Contribute to the development and enhancement of privacy-related policies, procedures, processes and internal controls.
• Attend regulatory outreach meetings, prepare summary reports and support follow-up actions in coordination with local compliance teams.
• Support responses to data subject access requests, partnering with Legal on sensitive or contentious matters.
• Prepare metrics and management information for senior stakeholders and committees on regional privacy risks, trends and programme enhancements.
• Support regulatory filings where applicable.
• Monitor regulatory developments across EMEA and coordinate necessary programme updates.
• Support data privacy reviews of third-party vendors as part of the third-party risk management process. Experience and Skills
Essential
• Experience advising on data privacy and transparency in relation to AI and/or advanced technology systems.
• Experience designing or embedding data privacy controls and frameworks into technology-driven processes.
• Strong working knowledge of UK and EU data protection laws, including cross-border data transfer requirements.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within regional and global teams.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to provide pragmatic, actionable advice.
• Experience within financial services or another highly regulated industry.
• Knowledge of data protection laws across EMEA jurisdictions outside the UK/EU. Qualifications
• University degree or equivalent (essential).
• Privacy or compliance certifications (e.g. CIPP/E) preferred.
