Role description
Health Data Movers (HDM) is a “Best in KLAS” healthcare technology services firm. We are trusted partners to healthcare organizations, biotechnology companies, and digital health enterprises through our Services – Data Management, Integration, Project Management, and Clinical & Business Applications – we are the smart choice for creating unique solutions that empower patients and providers by unleashing the potential of healthcare data and technology.
Bridges/Aura Analyst
HDM is seeking an experienced Epic Bridges Analyst to join a dedicated 3-person team focused on implementing Epic Aura for a large genetic testing laboratory client. As a representative of our firm, you will be instrumental in establishing seamless HL7-based interfaces and integrations to support the Epic Aura (Orders and Results Anywhere) Network. This implementation will enable the laboratory to efficiently receive electronic orders from Epic-based health systems and deliver discrete genetic test results directly into providers' EHR workflows, improving turnaround times, data accuracy, and precision medicine capabilities.
The role requires strong expertise in Epic Bridges for managing inbound and outbound interfaces, with additional experience in Epic Care Everywhere to leverage its underlying network infrastructure for Aura connectivity. You will collaborate closely with the client's laboratory information systems (LIS) team, integration engineers, and Epic specialists in a small, agile team environment. This is a contract position with potential for extension, emphasizing interoperability in high-volume genetic diagnostics.
Location: Remote with potential for occasional on-site visits to the client's facility (travel expenses covered).
Duration: 6 months initial contract.
Key Responsibilities
• Interface Design and Configuration: Lead the design, build, and configuration of Epic Bridges interfaces (HL7 v2.x, FHIR where applicable) to support Aura's order entry and results delivery workflows, including compendium mapping, order routing, and discrete result parsing for genetic testing data (e.g., variants, interpretations).
• Aura Integration Support: Configure and test connectivity via Epic's Care Everywhere network infrastructure, ensuring secure, automated routing of messages without traditional point-to-point overhead; troubleshoot connectivity issues and validate data normalization.
• Workflow and Gap Analysis: Partner with laboratory stakeholders to analyze current LIS workflows, identify integration gaps for genetic testing processes (e.g., NGS panels, specimen tracking), and optimize for Aura's streamlined order/result exchange.
• Testing and Validation: Conduct comprehensive interface testing (unit, integration, UAT), including error queue management, message validation, and end-to-end scenario testing to ensure compliance with HL7 standards and accurate handling of complex genetic results.
• Care Everywhere Leverage: Apply experience with Epic Care Everywhere configurations to enhance Aura interoperability, including patient matching, record location, and secure data exchange protocols.
• Data Security and Compliance: Implement security measures for sensitive genetic information, ensuring HIPAA compliance, audit logging, and secure transmission during Aura integrations.
• Training and Go-Live Support: Create documentation and training materials on interface workflows; provide hypercare support during go-live and ongoing monitoring/post-implementation optimization.
• Project Collaboration: Serve as the integration expert in the 3-person team; coordinate with client teams, Epic support, and external vendors; participate in agile ceremonies and report on interface milestones and risks.
• Documentation: Maintain thorough records of interface specifications, custom mappings, and change management using tools like Data Courier.
Required Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years as an Epic Interfaces/Bridges Analyst, with at least 3 years in healthcare integrations involving laboratory systems. Proven experience supporting Epic Aura or similar network-based integrations (e.g., specialty diagnostics ordering/results).
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in Epic Bridges configuration, including interface builds, message transformations, error handling, and monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of HL7 v2.x messaging (ORM/ORU, ADT), with exposure to FHIR for modern interoperability.
• Experience with Epic Care Everywhere configurations and its role in network-based exchanges.
• Familiarity with integration engines (e.g., Cloverleaf, Mirth, Rhapsody) and SQL for querying Epic databases (Clarity/Chronicles).
• Domain Knowledge: Understanding of laboratory workflows, particularly in genetic/molecular diagnostics, including order compendiums and discrete result structuring.
• Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration abilities; comfortable working in small teams and interfacing with clinical/technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
• Epic Bridges certification strongly preferred; Epic Care Everywhere certification is a nice to have.
• Additional Epic certifications (e.g., Interconnect, Beaker) or experience with genetic testing integrations (e.g., via labs like GeneDx, Invitae).
• Prior consulting experience in healthcare IT projects, especially representing firms in client-facing implementations.
• Knowledge of agile methodologies and tools like Jira; experience with precision medicine data standards (e.g., variant reporting).
• Background in regulatory compliance for genetic data (CLIA, CAP, GDPR where applicable).
