Role description
FinOps Engineer
Seattle, WA - Hybrid - Locals 12 Months Contract
USC, GC, GC-EAD and H4-EAD
Pay Rate: $65-68/hr. on C2C Job Description:ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a seasoned FinOps Engineer to own cloud financial management across our Azure and AWS environments. This is not a back-office analytics role — you will operate at the intersection of engineering, finance, and executive strategy, translating complex cloud spend data into actionable decisions. You will work directly with senior leadership and engineering teams to drive measurable cost efficiency without compromising delivery velocity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Own end-to-end cloud cost management across Azure and AWS, including Reserved Instance (RI) and Savings Plan (SP) strategy, lifecycle management, and utilization reporting
• Build and maintain forecasting models to project cloud spend at team, product, and organizational levels with accuracy suitable for budget planning cycles
• Develop and operate anomaly detection frameworks to surface cost spikes, waste, and misaligned resource usage in near-real time
• Partner with engineering teams to embed FinOps best practices into architecture reviews, sprint planning, and deployment pipelines
• Prepare and deliver cost reviews and optimization roadmaps for senior managers and operational leadership — translating technical spend data into business narrative
• Establish and maintain tagging standards, showback/chargeback models, and cost allocation frameworks across business units
• Evaluate and recommend tooling (native and third-party) to enhance visibility, governance, and automation
QUALIFICATIONS
• 5+ years of hands-on cloud operations experience with deep expertise in both Azure and AWS cost management platforms
• Demonstrated proficiency in RI/SP procurement strategy, utilization analysis, and coverage optimization across compute families
• Experience building cloud spend forecasting models using tools such as Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, or third-party platforms (e.g., Apptio Cloudability, CloudHealth)
• Strong anomaly detection and alerting experience — ability to architect monitoring logic, not just consume dashboards
• Proven ability to communicate financial and operational recommendations to senior leadership; executive-level presentation skills are essential
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, or similar for data extraction, cost analysis automation, and reporting pipelines
• FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCUS or equivalent) preferred; cloud certifications (AWS, Azure) a plus
