Role description
BLOC Resources is seeking a highly skilled and experienced GIS Analyst 3 to support the ASC1523 Asset Data and Analytics team at Nicor Gas Headquarters. This senior-level GIS professional will play an integral role in the development, maintenance, analysis, and transformation of geospatial datasets used in critical utility and pipeline operations.
The GIS Analyst 3 will work closely with engineering, operations, compliance, and IT stakeholders to understand business needs, optimize workflows, identify data improvement opportunities, and produce high-quality GIS deliverables. This role requires advanced technical expertise, strong analytical capabilities, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex assignments with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelorβs degree in GIS, geography, engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, and at least 3 years of industry-standard GIS experience
A GIS certificate plus 3+ years of relevant work experience may substitute for a degree
1+ years of hands-on GIS experience within a utility, gas, or pipeline environment (preferred and strongly beneficial)

Key Responsibilities

Perform advanced GIS analysis, modeling, and geoprocessing tasks to support operational initiatives, asset management, regulatory compliance, and engineering needs
Conduct data mining activities to extract, organize, and prepare geospatial and tabular information based on customer specifications
Design and implement complex geospatial queries, maps, dashboards, and technical reports for internal and external stakeholders
Execute and document application testing, validate functionality, identify defects, and collaborate with technical teams on remediation
Interface with business users to gather requirements, document enhancement requests, and ensure that GIS solutions align with customer expectations
Identify, evaluate, and recommend new GIS technologies, tools, processes, and automation opportunities to improve departmental efficiency and data quality
Create, maintain, and enhance automated workflows using Python scripting, ModelBuilder, FME, or similar tools to streamline recurring processes
Process, convert, clean, and validate data from multiple sources, including CAD files, external GIS datasets, GPS data, spreadsheets, and legacy systems
Support data migration and integration projects, ensuring alignment with enterprise data models and system architecture
Perform detailed QA/QC on versioned datasets prior to publication or deployment into production environments
Support and maintain the Utility and Pipeline Data Model (UPDM), ensuring data consistency, integrity, and business rule compliance
Work extensively with linear referencing systems, ensuring accurate event management, route calibration, and measure-based data relationships
Provide technical guidance and support to team members, field personnel, engineers, and operational groups
