Role description
Job Title: IBM RPG Resource General Summary The IBM I Developer is responsible for developing, writing, and maintaining computer related procedures, programs, and data files under an IBM I operating system that will be used by all departments in the Company. The IBM I Developer will program in RPG (Report Program Generator) language. Experience in RPG is highly desired. Applicants without experience must possess aptitude and desire to learn and program in RPG. Essential Duties and Responsibilities β€’ Analyze the needs of the end user and/or company while providing technical support for the Information Systems department, such as coding, designing, implementing and debugging programs. β€’ Design systems and programs and coordinate the review of specification, user sign-off process, and the development of user manuals. β€’ Provide input to management to prolong system life or to recommend timely replacement of system. β€’ Assist operations as needed and provide technical advice and support. β€’ Recommend improved operational procedures to maximize systems efficiency; provide guidance to solving complex operations malfunctions and assist in telecommunications troubleshooting. β€’ Assist in the installation of technological upgrades. β€’ Maintain a strict degree of confidentiality in handling sensitive, proprietary, and private information. Required Skills and Abilities β€’ Working knowledge of IBM I operating system (OS/400) β€’ Possess sound analytical problem solving and documentation skills. β€’ Communicate effectively with users of Information Systems services. β€’ Demonstrate ability to prioritize conflicting demands. β€’ Recognize processing and programming inefficiencies and propose improvements. β€’ Write and speak clearly and concisely. β€’ Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment toward the job and mission of the Company. β€’ Excellent planning, interpretation, and organizational skills. β€’ Detail-oriented with high work ethics and a self-starter who can work on multiple projects simultaneously and be able to meet deadlines. Minimum Qualifications A combination of education and experience that would demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, which may include a bachelor’s or associate degree in computer science or related field. Five or more years of programming experience. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems or related field. Knowledge or familiarity with RPG, RPGII, RPGLE, RPG Free, SQL, CL, DDS, PDM or related programs. Familiarity with all aspects of the business, as well as data processing and management information systems. Skilled in RPG programming, designing, and implementing IT systems. Physical Demands Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to bend, push, pull, and lift up to 20lbs. Work Environment Work is generally performed in an office environment. Work includes typical computer and paper-related noise levels. Hours and Workdays 8:00AM-5:00PM; Monday-Friday
