Role description
We improve lives
We improve lives
IDB Invest is the private sector arm of the IDB Group and an international financial institution committed to addressing the development needs of Latin America and the Caribbean. Our mission is to support sustainable enterprises and projects that deliver financial results while maximizing social and environmental impact in the region.
IDB Invest operates in 26 countries, structured across four geographic regions and three industry verticals: Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Intermediaries, and Corporates.
In support of a new transformative business model “Originate to Share” our shareholders recently approved a $3.5 billion capitalization. This will allow IDB Invest to significantly scaleup its investments, to approximately $19 billion, and unlocking greater private sector participation to drive development and climate impact across the region.
About This Position
We is seeking a Data Operations Consultant to support, evolve, and help lead operational excellence for our analytical data platform in the Finance and Administration Department. You will join the Data Management and Analytics (DMA) team – the group responsible for defining and implementing IDB Invest’s data strategy and ensuring trusted data for the organization.
In this role, you will be the front line of defense for our data and analytics platform (Azure Databricks Lakehouse), providing operational support to data engineers, data scientists, and business users. Beyond incident response, you will introduce and operationalize modern reliability practices (e.g., defining reliability targets and monitoring indicators) and build automations that reduce manual effort and prevent recurring issues.
Our team: Data Management and Analytics is the team under the ITA Division responsible for defining and implementing the data strategy for IDB Invest.
What you’ll do
As The Data Operations Consultant, You Will
• Monitor and triage incidents on the data analytics platform (Databricks Lakehouse, Azure Data Factory pipelines), acting as the first responder and ensuring clear, timely communications to users and stakeholders.
• Maintain runbooks and knowledge base: Document common incidents and their resolutions in structured runbook format. You’ll keep our Confluence knowledge articles up-to-date with troubleshooting steps, platform FAQs, and create runbooks/playbooks that enable faster recovery.
• Lead post-incident reviews (blameless postmortems): Document what happened, why it happened, and the preventive actions; ensure learnings are embedded into runbooks, monitoring, and automation.
• Manage platform operations and changes: Oversee daily and weekly operational tasks – for example, verify that all scheduled pipelines and jobs have completed successfully.
• Automate operational workflows to reduce toil: Design and implement automations that reduce repetitive manual work (e.g., automated detection → notification → ticket creation workflows tied to pipeline failures).
• Optimize performance and costs (FinOps): Track key platform cost and usage metrics. You will generate monthly reports on Azure Databricks spending and identify opportunities to reduce cost. Additionally, you will perform capacity planning for workloads, identify resiliency patterns, and perform proactive performance tuning.
• Support data quality operations: Work with the Data Governance and Analytics teams to monitor data quality dashboards and alerts. You will help us implementing an end-to-end observability (source → ingestion → dashboards), including monitoring of core Power BI reports (freshness/anomalies).
• Participate in Impact Assessment reviews: regularly support technical teams from IT teams assessing the impact that upstream changes in source systems introduce into the analytical environment, as well as the definition of appropriate remediation steps.
• DevOps and release excellence: Oversee efficient release management operations and continuously improve CI/CD for data assets (Databricks notebooks, ADF workflows), including automated quality checks and quality gates (e.g., SonarCloud).
• Supervise the platform’s security model: oversee the appropriate configuration of the analytical environment's data authorization model and support the ongoing maintenance of access control mechanisms.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and coaching: Champion operational excellence and reliability practices, share knowledge, and evolve team practices through playbooks, training, and standards.
What you'll need
• Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. A Master’s degree is a plus.
• Experience: At least 2 years of professional IT experience, with 3+ years in data engineering or data platform operations.
Certifications
• Relevant certifications in cloud or data (e.g., Azure Data Engineer, ITIL Foundation, or Databricks Certified Associate) is a plus.
• Troubleshooting: Proven experience troubleshooting complex pipeline failures and performing root cause analysis. You should have hands-on experience managing data pipelines or platforms (Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Spark, data warehouses) in a production environment.
• Monitoring/alerting: Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Databricks notifications, Azure Log Analytics) and BI/reporting for dashboards.
• Data Quality: Familiarity with Data Quality root‑cause analysis, resolution methodologies, data quality tools and technologies is a plus.
• DevOps/CI-CD: Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices (Azure DevOps is a plus).
• Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required
