Information Engineer – Safety Analysis and Sharing Support
Position Overview
The Information Engineer provides analytical, technical, and coordination support to the FAA's Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) program. This role supports aviation safety analysis, information sharing, data standards development, and safety outreach activities. The Information Engineer works closely with FAA program offices, safety teams, domestic and international aviation stakeholders, and the aerospace community to ensure effective safety data analysis, dissemination, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Analysis & Sharing Project Management Support (Task 2)
• Provide preparatory, on-site, and post-meeting support for safety analysis and information-sharing events.
• Plan and coordinate regional, national, and international safety team meetings and conferences.
• Arrange meeting logistics including locations, facilities, lodging, meals, technical presentations, and exhibit halls.
• Provide on-site support for registration, attendee coordination, and security arrangements.
• Prepare and distribute meeting minutes, proceedings, and supporting documentation.
• Develop and disseminate meeting publications and outreach materials as directed.
• Coordinate with vendors, temporary services, transportation providers, and partner organizations.
• Prepare and distribute meeting records in FAA-approved formats (e.g., PowerPoint, PDF).
• Ensure contractor identification is clearly communicated in all written, electronic, and in-person interactions.
Safety Information Analysis Support (Task 3)
• Conduct aviation safety analytical studies to support hazard identification and risk analysis.
• Analyze complex safety data relationships using FAA-sponsored tools, including the ASIAS system.
• Prepare technical papers, analytical reports, and presentations for FAA leadership and safety teams.
• Identify and evaluate new data and information sources to enhance ASIAS safety analyses.
• Evaluate analytical tools and methodologies for applicability to aviation safety analysis.
• Develop, maintain, and disseminate analytical models and methodologies for safety performance monitoring.
• Provide ASIAS portal user training, demonstrations, and user support.
• Conduct briefings to demonstrate ASIAS capabilities to FAA offices and stakeholders.
• Facilitate InfoShare safety conferences in protected information-sharing environments.
• Develop and maintain metadata including definitions, business rules, and contextual information.
• Support user acceptance testing (UAT) for new ASIAS databases and analytical capabilities.
• Serve as a conduit for industry user feedback and continuous improvement recommendations.
Safety Outreach & Cooperation Support (Task 4)
• Support FAA participation in the development and promotion of aviation safety data standards.
• Collaborate with domestic and international aviation data experts and safety organizations.
• Research aviation safety data to support safety teams and working groups.
• Maintain safety team rosters, contact lists, and collaboration resources.
• Facilitate discussions and consensus-building among aviation data experts.
• Provide meeting and conference support promoting data standards and FAA safety initiatives.
• Prepare research summaries, outreach materials, and briefing products.
• Maintain electronic records and databases of valid data values and safety standards.
• Develop data models supporting the establishment of aviation data standards and taxonomies.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, Aviation, Public Policy, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5–8 years of experience supporting aviation safety, data analysis, or information-sharing programs.
• Experience supporting FAA, DOT, or other Federal safety programs (preferred).
• Familiarity with aviation safety data, ASIAS, or similar safety information systems.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and presentation skills.
• Experience coordinating meetings, conferences, or technical working groups.
Desired Skills
• Knowledge of aviation safety standards, taxonomies, and data governance.
