Overview
We are supporting a leading UK defence organisation on a high-profile maritime programme and are seeking an experienced IT Administrator / Systems Engineer to support a busy Trials & Engineering team.
This role is critical in managing and maintaining trials data and associated IT systems, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and integrity across multiple platforms. You will act as a key interface between IT and engineering teams, helping streamline data workflows and supporting operational delivery in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Support the Trials team with data ingestion, processing, and validation from trial activities
β’ Manage data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) across multiple systems and formats
β’ Administer and maintain IT systems, servers, and data environments used for trials
β’ Ensure data integrity, traceability, and secure handling in line with defence standards
β’ Assist in automation of data workflows to improve efficiency and reduce manual processes
β’ Provide 1stβ3rd line support for systems used within engineering and trials teams
β’ Collaborate with engineers and analysts to ensure data is structured, accessible, and usable
β’ Support configuration management and version control of trial datasets
β’ Troubleshoot system and data-related issues in time-critical environments
Required Skills & Experience
β’ Active SC Clearance (or eligible and willing to undergo clearance)
β’ Proven experience as an IT Administrator, Systems Administrator, or Systems Engineer
β’ Strong experience in data handling, including:
β’ Data ingestion and loading
β’ Data extraction and transformation
β’ Working with structured and unstructured datasets
β’ Experience working with databases (e.g. SQL, PostgreSQL)
β’ Scripting/automation skills (e.g. Python, PowerShell, Bash)
β’ Solid understanding of Windows and Linux environments
β’ Experience with secure systems and data governance, ideally in regulated environments
β’ Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Desirable Experience
β’ Experience within UK Defence or Maritime programmes
β’ Exposure to trials data, telemetry, or sensor data
β’ Familiarity with data visualisation or analysis tools
β’ Understanding of networking fundamentals and secure architectures
β’ Experience with cloud or hybrid environments (AWS/Azure)
