Rhapsody Integration Engineer
Location: Columbia SC ( Remote)
Duration: 12 Months
Position Overview:
The State of South Carolinaβs Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an experienced Systems Software Programmer β Project Lead to support backend processing and modernization initiatives within the ELC Modernization Project. This individual will play a critical role in the design, development, and maintenance of public health data systems, with a focus on Electronic Case Reporting (eCR) and Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR) integrations using the Rhapsody Integration Engine.
Daily Duties / Responsibilities:
β’ Collaborate with DPH, IT, and vendor teams to plan, design, and configure integration solutions.
β’ Develop, enhance, and maintain Rhapsody routes to process healthcare data in multiple formats (XML, CSV, SOAP, HL7, etc.).
β’ Monitor and troubleshoot Rhapsody routes and production processes to ensure accurate data flow.
β’ Perform code reviews, test changes, and support deployment and post-implementation activities.
β’ Automate daily maintenance tasks and implement proactive system monitoring.
β’ Create and maintain system documentation and architecture diagrams.
β’ Provide mentorship, technical advice, and best-practice guidance to staff.
β’ Support disease surveillance systems (eCR, ELR) and ensure data compliance with CDC reporting requirements.
β’ Participate in modernization efforts by converting legacy systems and processes into Rhapsody-based integrations.
β’ Assist with data migrations, testing, validation, and UAT support.
β’ Ensure compliance with agency IT standards, documentation, and data security requirements.
β’ Provide on-call or after-hours support for critical systems when needed.

1. Symphonia Mapping Language (SML)
1. HL7 (v2.3.1 β 2.5.1; ORU & ORM message types)
1. XML / XSD / XPath

1. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
1. Experience with security and data classification (CDC, HIPAA, CJIS, PHI, PII)
