The interim Controller will lead the accounting operations of a growing insurance wholesaler with an active acquisition strategy. This role oversees all aspects of general and transactional accounting, brokerage-specific financial operations, and acquisition support. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, exceptional systems knowledge, and outstanding communication skills to serve internal sales teams, & external brokers. This is a 6-month contract position working onsite in Dallas, Texas. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Key Responsibilities General Accounting
Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
Maintain the general ledger and ensure appropriate reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
Ensure proper recording of intercompany transactions across business units.
Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to support a growing and acquisitive organization.
Transactional Accounting
Supervise customer billing, ensuring accuracy and timely invoicing to retail brokers and agency partners.
Oversee insurance operations accounts payable processes
Establish strong internal controls to ensure the integrity of all transactional processes.
Brokerage Accounting & Commissions
Oversee brokerage accounting functions, including tracking of premiums, fees, and commissions.
Manage the calculation, recording, and payment of producer commissions with accuracy and transparency.
Work closely with the sales and operations teams to resolve brokerage accounting issues and inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports for executive leadership.
Aid financial planning and analysis in developing dashboards and KPIs to monitor operational and financial performance.
Provide variance analysis and actionable insights to support strategic decision-making.
Staff Supervision & Leadership Systems Support
Assist in onboarding and integrating accounting systems, processes, and staff from acquired entities.
Lead or support systems integration and data conversion efforts related to acquisitions and system upgrades.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
Strong systems acumen, with experience in mid-sized to large ERP or accounting systems (AIM/Vertefore preferred).
Proven experience in systems integrations and conversions.
Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, data analysis) and familiarity with data visualization tools a plus.
Experience in the insurance industry (wholesale, brokerage, or carrier) strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with insurance operations accounting practices.
Leadership, organizational, and communication skills with a proven ability to build relationships across functions and with external partners.
