Location: Wembley
Office: 5 days a week
Day Rate - £400-500 per day outside IR35 Overview
A mid-sized technology and manufacturing group is seeking a Head of Finance to lead its finance function. Reporting to the Managing Director and sitting on the senior leadership team, the role covers finance operations in the UK and across European branches. The organisation is undergoing a period of transformation and growth, requiring an experienced finance leader to drive financial control, strategic planning, and process improvement. Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy
• Member of the senior leadership team, partnering with the Managing Director to influence strategy.
• Lead and develop a finance team of around seven people, covering management accounting, credit control, purchase ledger and accounts payable.
• Drive continuous improvement and change management across the finance function. Financial Control and Operations
• Oversee day-to-day finance operations: management accounting, payroll, purchase ledger, invoicing, credit control, treasury, cash management, and foreign exchange controls.
• Ensure data integrity, compliance, and accuracy of financial records.
• Prepare cash-flow forecasts in multiple currencies and maintain robust internal controls. Financial Planning and Analysis
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and trend analysis.
• Provide board-level performance reporting and KPIs.
• Support commercial teams with pricing, sales, and marketing analysis, as well as reporting on customer rebates and commissions. Reporting and Compliance
• Produce monthly and quarterly management accounts with multi-entity consolidation.
• Prepare audit files, liaise with external auditors, and oversee VAT and regulatory filings.
• Ensure robust governance and risk management. Working Capital and Credit Control
• Establish and enforce credit policies and limits.
• Manage aged debtors, including key accounts and online sales platforms.
• Deliver monthly reports on cash collection, credit notes, and returns. Systems and Process Improvement
• Lead finance transformation initiatives, with a focus on ERP systems (Epicor experience is desirable).
• Ensure finance systems integrate with sales, inventory, and procurement.
• Collaborate with IT and external consultants to enhance automation and reporting. Candidate Profile
• Professionally qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA).
• Experience in wholesale, distribution, or manufacturing.
• Knowledge of IFRS and multi-currency operations.
• Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel; Power BI or other BI tools are a plus.
