Role description
Title: iSeries Data Engineer Duration: 06 to 12 months (Possible extension) Location: Houston TX (Hybrid) Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain database applications on the IBM iSeries platform. Convert RPG code to SQL stored procedures in DB2 for improved performance and maintainability. Perform query optimization, performance tuning, logging, and exception handling for DB2 applications. Analyze and read RPGIV, RPGLE, and RPGFree programs with embedded SQL for modernization efforts. Develop, test, and deploy DB2 SQL stored procedures following best practices. Integrate back-end database logic with front-end applications using REST APIs and JSON. Utilize IBM tools such as Aldon, RDI, and ACS for development and deployment. Work on application modernization and migration from RPG-based systems to modern DB2 SQL architectures. Implement source control and CI/CD processes using Git. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data-driven solutions and business requirements. Required Skills & Qualifications: Strong expertise in DB2 development on the IBM iSeries (AS/400) platform β€” must have experience creating and maintaining SQL stored procedures. Proven experience with dynamic SQL, RPG-to-SQL conversion, and performance tuning. Ability to read and interpret RPGIV, RPGLE, and RPGFree programs with embedded SQL. Hands-on experience with IBM development tools β€” Aldon, RDI, ACS. Experience developing or integrating with REST APIs and handling JSON data. Exposure to Python, Microservices architecture, and VS Code IDE development. Familiarity with Git source control and CI/CD pipelines.
