Role description
Project - (Insurance β Systems Modernisation project)
Role Purpose
The Business Analyst acts as the voice of the business, ensuring the business needs are correctly understood, documented, validated into a delivery backlog and translated into clear, actionable user stories, defining acceptance criteria and ensuring delivery aligns with business outcomes.
The candidate we are looking for will have demonstrable experience in an iterative / Agile-like project environment β They will have a deep understanding of Agile principles and methodologies, be able to show collaborative problem solving skills and techniques, drive continuous backlog refinement and define outcomes based on stated requirements to support the technology modernisation of the clubs core application.
This is a hands-on role and the successful candidate will be working closely with the development and business teams during the analysis, development and testing phases of a sprint, to ensure alignment with acceptance criteria and drive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Business Representation & Stakeholder Engagement
β’ Work alongside and represent the Product Owner and wider business stakeholders within the project delivery team, especially when Product Owner is not present.
β’ Act as the primary liaison between the Product Owner, business stakeholders and SMEs as well as the wider delivery team in terms of business needs and outcomes
β’ Arrange and run regular sessions with the Product Owner and wider stakeholders to communicate and demonstrate progress, refine, take feedback and elaborate the backlog and ensure priority is agreed (Backlog refinement)
Requirements Definition & Management
β’ Define, document, and secure approval for the Product backlog, ensuring it is reviewed and refined regularly with the business product owner
β’ Collaborate with wider stakeholders to close any uncertainty, ensuring all business needs are understood and agreed
β’ Ensure outcomes are defined and agreed for each item on the backlog
β’ Maintain and continuously refine the project backlog in Azure DevOps (ADO), ensuring:
β’ User stories are captured and documented using best practice techniques
β’ User Stories are prioritised with business stakeholders and reflect criticality / business value
β’ Each User Story contains enough detail for the technical team to define solutions
β’ Each User Story includes a clearly agreed Definition of Done with a named stakeholder as being responsible for signing off the DoD.
β’ Requirements traceability is maintained end-to-end across the SDLC
β’ Produce end-user training documentation that describe changes to business process and how the software application supports these
β’ Provide training to the business users so that they are adequately trained on the new systems functionality
Testing Support & UAT Coordination
β’ Collaborate with the Project Test Lead to plan and coordinate UAT approach with business stakeholders to allow acceptance criteria to be adequately proven
β’ Ensure test coverage reflects business outcomes and provide clarifications to support defect triage and resolution
β’ Liaise continuously with the business stakeholders during testing phases to ensure feedback is captured, logged and the priority and criticality of any changes are captured and agreed
Risk & Issue Management
β’ Proactively identify and escalate risks or issues to the Project Manager, ensuring items are added to the RAID log with appropriate mitigation
Reporting & Communication
β’ Provide regular, timely progress reporting to the Project Manager, showing alignment or deviation from agreed BA activities
Skills & Competencies
Essential
β’ Strong business analysis experience in Agile/iterative delivery environments and associated ways of working (i.e. Defining acceptance criteria)
β’ Strong business analysis experience in technology led projects β Proactively drives forward and owns the project backlog on a day-to-day basis, aligned to accepted best practice
β’ Proven capability capturing business requirements and producing resulting user stories
β’ Excellent communication and facilitation skills across technical and business stakeholders.
β’ Ability to analyse ambiguity and drive backlog clarity through collaboration
β’ Strong understanding of requirements traceability and solution alignment
Desirable
β’ Experience with Business Process Management and knowledge of BPMN 2.0 favourable
β’ Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) for backlog, user story and test traceability management
