Role description
Position: PMO - Food Manufacturing Travel Required: Up to 100%, entirely client-driven Type of Position: Contract - 26 to 28 weeks Location: Remote when not at client site Position Overview We are seeking an experienced PMO professional with deep expertise in food manufacturing to support a critical operational transformation engagement. This contract requires direct experience managing multiple complex workstreams in food production environments. You will work directly with the client team to coordinate project activities, track deliverables, manage interdependencies, and ensure successful execution of a large-scale manufacturing improvement initiative. What You'll Do As the PMO lead, you'll establish and maintain the project management framework for a multi-workstream operational transformation at a food manufacturing facility. You'll coordinate 5-8 simultaneous workstreams including process optimization, capacity expansion, quality improvement, supply chain integration, and technology implementation. Your role will involve creating and maintaining detailed project plans, RAIDLOG tracking, status reporting, and executive dashboards that provide clear visibility into progress, risks, and issues. You'll facilitate regular workstream sync meetings, steering committee sessions, and executive leadership updates, ensuring alignment across all project activities. Managing project documentation, meeting cadences, and decision-making processes will be critical to keeping this complex engagement on track. You'll work closely with workstream leads to identify resource constraints, schedule conflicts, and cross-functional dependencies that could impact timelines or deliverables. Building strong relationships with client stakeholders at all levelsโ€”from plant floor personnel to C-suite executivesโ€”is essential as you navigate the organizational dynamics of a large manufacturing operation. You'll track budget versus actuals, manage change requests, and ensure proper governance processes are followed throughout the engagement. Your ability to anticipate issues, escalate appropriately, and keep leadership informed will be key to project success. Creating comprehensive status reports, milestone tracking, and benefits realization documentation will enable both the client and Synergetics leadership to understand project health at a glance. You'll support the project team in managing vendor relationships, coordinating external resources, and ensuring all project artifacts meet quality standards. Throughout the engagement, you'll maintain flexibility and adaptability as project scope and priorities evolve based on client needs and emerging opportunities. What You'll Bring You have 7-10 years of PMO or project management experience, with at least 3-5 years specifically in food manufacturing environments. Your deep understanding of food production operations includes familiarity with production planning, quality systems, food safety requirements, and regulatory compliance including FSMA, HACCP, and GMP standards. You've successfully managed large-scale operational transformation programs with multiple concurrent workstreams and diverse stakeholder groups. Your expertise in project management tools and methodologies is demonstrated through proficiency with MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar project management platforms, along with advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools. You hold a PMP, CAPM, or similar project management certification, and you understand both waterfall and agile project management approaches. Your strong organizational and analytical skills enable you to manage complex information flows and identify critical path issues before they become problems. You have excellent communication and people skills that allow you to build credibility with both technical teams and executive leadership. You're comfortable facilitating difficult conversations, managing conflicts, and driving consensus across diverse groups. You hold a Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field, and you're willing and able to travel extensively (up to 100%) to the client site; travel is solely client-driven and may require extended stays at the manufacturing facility. What Would Make You Stand Out Experience managing PMOs for consulting firms or professional services organizations would strengthen your candidacy, as would familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other operational improvement methodologies. If you have specific experience in packaged foods, dairy, beverages, meat processing, or baking segments, you'll bring valuable industry context. Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems (MES), ERP implementations, or large-scale technology projects in manufacturing environments demonstrates technical depth that adds value to this engagement. An advanced degree such as an MBA, prior experience with Big 4 or strategy consulting firms, or certification in change management (Prosci or similar) would round out an already strong profile.
