Scope: Develop strategic architecture and approach to centralize an observability tool suite around open Telemetry.
Resourcing Needs:
Looking for strategic resources with Data Integration & Observability Tool strengths (Primary: Open Telemetry)
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate OpenTelemetry Subject Matter Expert to lead our observability initiatives. As an SME, you will provide deep technical guidance on OpenTelemetry instrumentation, architecture, and integration across distributed systems. You'll collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and product teams to ensure robust telemetry pipelines and actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design and implementation of OpenTelemetry-based tracing, metrics, and logging solutions.
• Define best practices for instrumentation across microservices and cloud-native applications.
• Collaborate with teams to integrate OpenTelemetry with observability platforms (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger, Zipkin, Datadog).
• Conduct training sessions and workshops to upskill teams on OpenTelemetry usage.
• Review and validate telemetry data for completeness, accuracy, and performance impact.
• Stay current with OpenTelemetry project updates and contribute to internal tooling improvements.
• Troubleshoot and optimize telemetry pipelines for scalability and reliability.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in observability, DevOps, or backend engineering.
• Proven expertise in OpenTelemetry and distributed tracing.
• Strong understanding of telemetry data formats (OTLP, JSON, protobuf).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
