Role description
Your new role As a Lead Database Administrator, you will take ownership of technically complex delivery and support activities across a wide range of business areas. You'll lead the design, optimisation, and support of Oracle and SQL Server platforms across both on-prem and cloud environments (Azure/AWS), with a strong focus on resilience, security, and performance.You'll also: Guide and educate others on database configuration and design. Drive capability building within the DBA team and lead support activities. Advise on emerging technologies and contribute to procurement decisions. Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborate with internal teams, government departments, and external suppliers, including Microsoft and Oracle. What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you must have: Valid SC clearance from day one. Extensive experience with Oracle 19c (Dataguard, RMAN, OEM Grid) and/or SQL Server. Strong knowledge of Cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) and database deployment in hybrid environments. A broad understanding of IT security best practices, particularly MOD standards. Proven ability to influence technical direction and deliver robust, secure database solutions. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders. A degree in a relevant IT discipline or equivalent professional experience (typically 5+ years).
