Role description
Role: Power BI Copilot & Semantic Layer Specialist
Location: New Jersey (Onsite)
Duration: W2 Contract (Independent candidate on W2)
We're looking for a specialist to design and govern the semantic layer that powers our Power BI ecosystem, with a focus on enabling Copilot and natural-language query experiences. This role ensures our data models are structured, described, and governed well enough for both traditional reporting and AI-assisted analytics to return accurate, trustworthy answers.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain semantic models (datasets) optimized for both traditional Power BI reports and Copilot/natural-language queries
- Define clear naming conventions, synonyms, descriptions, and metadata to improve Copilot's ability to interpret business terminology
- Configure and tune Power BI Copilot features for accuracy and relevance
- Partner with business stakeholders to capture domain terminology into the semantic model
- Monitor and troubleshoot Copilot query accuracy, iterating on model structure/metadata to reduce misinterpretation
- Collaborate with data engineering to ensure the underlying data model supports both semantic clarity and performance
