Position Summary
The Power BI Developer will support the universityβs COMPASS initiative, a major academic analytics program focused on student success. The role involves migrating reports from Tableau to Power BI, developing new dashboards and Power BI apps, enhancing semantic models, and collaborating with a business analyst and the development team. This position requires someone who can work independently, deliver quickly, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
β’ Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and apps for academic analytics.
β’ Support migration from Tableau to Power BI, including redevelopment of existing reporting assets.
β’ Build and optimize semantic models and curated datasets within Power BI.
β’ Write and maintain advanced SQL queries, including creation of views for Power BI ingestion.
β’ Apply dimensional modeling concepts to support data structure and reporting needs.
β’ Work closely with the Business Analyst to gather requirements and refine deliverables.
β’ Participate in daily stand-ups at 9 AM PST and communicate progress regularly.
β’ Present or demo work when needed (minimal but possible).
β’ Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and usability across all reports.
β’ Collaborate with developers and analysts to support student success analytics for faculty and administrators.

Required Qualifications
β’ 5+ years of hands-on Power BI experience
β’ (Flexible to 4 years for highly skilled, fast-ramp candidates.)
β’ Strong expertise in:
β’ DAX
β’ Power Query / M
β’ Advanced SQL
β’ Dimensional modeling
β’ Proven ability to deliver high-quality dashboards quickly with minimal supervision.
β’ Strong written and/or verbal communication skills (strength in one area acceptable).
β’ Ability to work during core Pacific Time business hours.
β’ Experience collaborating in remote teams.

Preferred Qualifications
β’ Familiarity with AWS infrastructure.
β’ Experience in higher education analytics or student success metrics.
β’ Understanding of FERPA (candidate must complete internal FERPA certification).
