Role description
Job Title: Senior Business Intelligence (Power BI) Developer
Remote - CST Hours
12-month contract
About the Role:
We are seeking a Senior Business Intelligence (Power BI) Developer to lead end-to-end data modeling, visualization, and analytics solutions across Microsoft Fabric and Azure Analytics. This role drives enterprise BI initiatives by building scalable, high-performance datasets and reports, optimizing DAX, and establishing governance and best practices. You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver insights that power critical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade Power BI datasets, semantic models, and reports using star/snowflake schemas and advanced DAX.
β’ Build performant TβSQL data pipelines, views, and stored procedures for curated data marts and dimensional models, including SCD handling and surrogate keys.
β’ Leverage Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Warehouse) and Azure Analytics services (Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks) for data ingestion, transformation, and governance.
β’ Implement row-level and object-level security (RLS/OLS), certified datasets, and workspace governance aligned to security and compliance standards.
β’ Optimize BI performance: tune DAX queries, model relationships, aggregations, incremental refresh, and DirectQuery/Composite models.
β’ Apply CI/CD and versioning practices for BI assets via Azure DevOps/Git, including deployment pipelines and parameterization.
β’ Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, success metrics, and deliver actionable insights; present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
β’ Document data lineage, semantic definitions, and KPIs; maintain data catalog and usage guidelines.
β’ Support production operations: monitor refreshes, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement across the BI estate.
Required Qualifications:
β’ Bachelorβs or Masterβs in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
β’ Expert-level Power BI: DAX (calculated columns/measures), tabular modeling, hierarchies, calculation groups, and advanced filtering.
β’ Strong Microsoft SQL Server/TβSQL skills: dimensional modeling, performance tuning, indexing, ETL/ELT patterns.
β’ Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Azure Analytics (Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks).
β’ Proven rigor: disciplined testing, validation, documentation, and enforcement of data standards.
β’ Excellent communication skills: translate business needs into technical designs and present complex concepts clearly.
β’ 7+ years of experience delivering enterprise BI solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
β’ Experience with Azure DevOps/Git for source control, CI/CD, and deployment pipelines.
β’ Exposure to Salesforce data models or Customer Data Platforms (CDP) for CRM integration and customer analytics.
β’ Power BI Administration: tenant settings, capacity management, monitoring, and usage analytics.
β’ Advanced performance tuning: aggregation tables, composite models, calculation groups, query caching.
β’ Data governance, cataloging, and metadata management (e.g., Purview).
