Job Title: Power BI - Semantic Modeling Engineer Duration: 12 months Work Location: 100% Remote - EST/CST Hours ABOUT OUR CLIENT / ABOUT THE ROLE Medix is currently seeking a highly technical Power BI - Semantic Modeling Engineer for a contract position with one of our best retail pharmacy clients. This individual will be focused on developing the core data foundation and semantic data models that feed enterprise reporting. Unlike traditional dashboard developers who focus on the User Interface Dashboards, this role is dedicated to 100% back-end semantic modeling, single source of truth data architecture, and certified datasets. You will be instrumental in creating next generation reporting capabilities by moving away from legacy, query-heavy reports toward a scalable, efficient semantic layer. RESPONSIBILITIES β€’ Leading the creation of new Power BI data architecture that relies on semantic modeling and certified datasets. β€’ Handling large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets involving HIPAA regulated Medicare/Medicaid data. β€’ Designing and implementing complex semantic data models in Power BI to bridge the gap between raw data and end-user self-service analytics. β€’ Working with SQL, Trino SQL and BigQuery to write queries and manage data in a big data setting. β€’ Building and optimizing the data architecture and foundation - robust fact and dimension tables following a clean Kimball/star schema model. β€’ Developing and maintaining certified datasets that serve as the single source of truth for the organization, reducing report redundancy (Power BI Endorsement) β€’ Conducting performance optimization, focusing on the back-end of Power BI, optimizing model performance, data ingestion, and refresh speeds of the data β€’ Acting as an individual contributor and project owner, helping to identify blind spots in the data and drive deliverables from the backlog with minimal oversight and guidance REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS β€’ Expertise in Data Modeling - seeking advanced knowledge of dimensional modeling, star schema, and handling large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets. β€’ Mastery of Back-End Power BI - seeking deep expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), and semantic modeling. β€’ SQL & BigQuery: Strong proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and managing data within BigQuery or similar cloud data warehouses. β€’ Data Governance: A commitment to data accuracy and governance over "fancy visuals". β€’ Strategic Thinking: Ability to look at data through a long-term lens to support a federated analyst corps and chatbot-driven analytics platforms. β€’ Communication: Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and transition technical requirements into a scalable data foundation
