The main function of a Database Administrator is to provide database support on a variety of hardware and software platforms and peripherals.
Job Responsibilities:
β’ Provide database and system support
β’ Monitor, collect statistical information, and provide reporting on capacity and system performance
β’ Based on statistics, make recommendations to maintain and improve capacity and system performance
β’ Monitor the system, and act upon system and application automated alerts
β’ Perform diagnostics, testing, and troubleshooting of software, o/s, and database issues (ex. correcting installation, configuration, or data problems)
β’ Plan and perform software installation, configuration, upgrade and patching
β’ Plan and perform database configuration, maintenance, upgrade and patching
β’ Perform and manage system and database backups
β’ Perform manual switch to redundant system / database components, in case of system failure
You will be administering highly available OLTP and business database services in a Cloud environment. This will include opportunities to contribute to developing automation to deploy and maintain Progress OpenEdge infrastructure in a DBaaS environment. You will work with DevOps engineers to provide or improve:
Duties:
β’ Perform core database administration tasks including administering high-availability, recoverability, provisioning and configuration, security, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
β’ Performance analysis, optimization tuning and startup options for Progress OpenEdge.
β’ Resolution of incidents related to database infrastructure.
β’ Provide analysis for High Impact incidents with Corrective Action recommendations.
β’ Perform POC analysis and documentation for complex business critical database processes.
β’ Monthly vulnerability patching for RedHat based systems.
β’ Automation development and implementation of Progress OpenEdge management processes.
β’ Development, implementation and tuning of Database alerting and availability monitoring.
β’ Develop and implement cloud infrastructure solution as part of our database product offerings.
β’ Develop database as a service and automation for Progress OpenEdge with Unix Scripting, Python, etc.
β’ Develop scripts for database administration and monitoring.
β’ Manage and monitor database backups, Log File Management, Cleanup, dump/load, storage management and data growth.
β’ Security administration in OS/Progress, user access definition, user access management, monitoring and maintaining security of the Production environments.
β’ Leverage the latest and greatest AWS Cloud technologies as you build and innovate.
β’ Embrace end-to-end ownership and DevOps practices: design, code, test, deploy and monitor your solutions in providing direct value to the Database Team.
β’ On-call rotation
Qualifications:
β’ Bachelor's degree in technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required
β’ 10+ yearsβ experience required
β’ Experience in providing technical support, covering database administration and operations to include monitoring maintenance capacity, performance monitoring/planning and incident/problem troubleshooting and resolution
β’ Strong knowledge of Progress Open Edge
β’ Understanding of trouble ticket tracking processes
β’ Understanding of support agreements and their implied service levels
β’ Proven ability to write excellent technical documentation
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
β’ Hourly contract rate range of $65.00 to $75.00 W2 based on experience and qualifications, as well as geographical market and business considerations.
