Role description
Front-Office Data Engineer
Visa Eligibility; (H4 EAD, L2S, L2 EAD, TN1, TN2, US Citizens, E3 Only)
Mandatory: Capital Market Experience
Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid)
Type: Contract
Seeking a Python developer / data engineer with 5-7+ years of experience—ideally within a bank, commodities trading firm, or utility—to support its petroleum trading group. This is a front‑office role focused on building practical tools and data infrastructure for a fundamentally driven trading desk. You will work closely with traders and analysts to acquire data, organize it, and convert it into reliable, production-ready systems—without requiring deep quantitative modeling expertise.
What You’ll Do
• Develop and maintain web‑scraping tools, automated data‑acquisition scripts, and ETL pipelines for fundamental market data.
• Build, enhance, and maintain core analytic SQL databases used by the trading team.
• Contribute to internal analytics platforms, APIs, and shared Python packages.
• Collaborate directly with traders and analysts to translate business needs into dashboards, utilities, and business‑intelligence applications.
• Ensure data quality, robustness, and reliability across internal tools and workflows.
Requirements
• Strong proficiency in Python
• Experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines
• Solid knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Familiarity with Git and modern version‑control practices
• Experience developing REST APIs (Flask, FastAPI, or similar)
• Experience with web‑scraping frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Beautiful Soup)
• Experience with Airflow or other workflow schedulers
Nice to Have
• Exposure to Power BI or Tableau
• Familiarity with Plotly Dash or other Python-based dashboard frameworks
• Understanding of energy markets, commodities, or trading workflows.
• Experience working with time‑series data
• Experience with Docker and containerization
Who You Are
• You enjoy solving practical problems and delivering tools that improve user effectiveness.
• You can translate high‑level business requirements into practical software solutions with minimal supervision.
• You are comfortable working in a fast‑paced, iterative front‑office environment.
• You value clean, maintainable code and reliable systems.
• You communicate clearly with non‑technical stakeholders.
