Title: Scala Engineer Location: Chicago, IL/ Dallas, TX (3 days onsite) Employment Type: Contract Position Summary We are looking for a highly skilled Scala Engineer with strong experience in Postgres, Apache frameworks, Databricks, and Java to join our digital engineering team. The role involves designing, building, and optimizing scalable, data-driven applications and platforms to support enterprise-level healthcare solutions. Key Responsibilities • Develop, enhance, and maintain high-performance applications using Scala and Java. • Design and implement data pipelines and ETL processes to manage large-scale healthcare data. • Work with PostgreSQL for schema design, query tuning, and database optimization. • Build and optimize distributed data processing workflows leveraging Apache Spark, Kafka, or Hadoop. • Utilize Databricks for advanced data engineering, analytics, and integration with machine learning models. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product owners, data scientists, and analysts to deliver robust solutions. • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations while maintaining data security and privacy. • Participate in system design, architecture reviews, and technology selection to support CVS Health’s data-driven initiatives. • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code, ensuring alignment with best practices and coding standards. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline. • 10+ years of software development experience with at least 3 years in Scala and strong proficiency in Java. • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL including complex query design and optimization. • Expertise with Apache frameworks (Spark, Kafka, or Hadoop) for large-scale data processing. • Experience working with Databricks for big data pipelines and analytics. • Solid understanding of functional programming principles, data structures, and algorithms. • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) for data and application development. • Experience with Agile methodologies, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
