Role description
Position Overview
This role is ideal for a senior analytics professional who can independently analyze complex utility operations, outage, customer, and system data; translate findings into clear recommendations; and support operational and Customer Success initiatives that improve outage-related customer experiences.
The Advanced Distribution Management Team (ADMT) is seeking a senior-level Operational Data Analyst to support Electric Distribution Operations, Electric Reliability, Customer Operations, and related business organizations.
The analyst will be responsible for understanding, analyzing, and interpreting the complex relationships between electric distribution operations data, network and device model data, outage information, and customer data.
You will partner with subject matter experts, business stakeholders, and application teams to independently lead complex analysis, answer business questions, identify trends, validate data, and develop reporting that supports operational decision-making and Customer Success initiatives focused on improving customer experience.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, self-directed analytics professional who can quickly understand complex business scenarios, balance competing priorities, translate ambiguous business needs into practical analytical solutions, and provide clear recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong analytical insight, SQL proficiency, problem-solving skills, and the ability to connect operational utility data with customer-focused business requirements are essential.
ADMT delivers innovative, reliable, and responsive IT solutions that support grid operations and system performance for approximately 500 application users across Electric Distribution Operations, Electric Regional Operations, Electric Reliability, Scheduling and Dispatch, Customer Teams, and related business areas. The team supports outage and analytics platforms including Outage Management System (OMS), Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), and Oracle Utilities Analytics (OUA).
Core Responsibilities
β’ Lead complex electric distribution, Network Management System (NMS), Oracle Utilities Analytics (OUA), and Customer Success data requests by understanding source data relationships, building, and refining SQL queries, validating results, and translating findings into actionable recommendations.
β’ Own recurring outage data audits to identify gaps, trends, and opportunities to improve customer outage notifications, internal processes, data quality, and supporting technology.
β’ Design and build reports, dashboards, and data views using outage, customer, operational, and other relevant data sources to support leadership decisions and operational performance monitoring.
β’ Support development of internal and external outage trackers, including integration with cloud-hosted components or AWS-based environments where applicable.
β’ Analyze Customer Success, customer outage notification, and external outage map data to identify opportunities to improve customer experience, including developing options and recommendations related to crew status information and other customer-facing outage map enhancements.
Desired Skills and Experience
β’ 5 or more years of progressive experience in data analytics, business systems analysis, database development, BI/reporting, software development, or application/data support roles, preferably supporting complex operational systems. Strong candidates with 7 or more years of highly relevant utility, outage management, customer operations, or operational analytics experience may also be considered.
β’ Senior-level experience developing reports, dashboards, data extracts, or analytics using SQL, Oracle tools, Power BI, or similar platforms, with strong working knowledge of SQL, relational data models, and Oracle Database concepts.
β’ Ability to independently analyze complex operational data sets, reconcile data across systems, identify anomalies, validate results, evaluate options, and translate findings into actionable business insights and recommendations.
β’ Experience leading requirements discussions, documenting functional or technical specifications, supporting user acceptance testing, creating user-friendly documentation, and advising stakeholders on data-driven decisions.
β’ Familiarity with outage management, Customer Success, customer outage notifications, external outage map analytics, reliability data, Oracle Utilities Analytics (OUA), Network Management System (NMS), SQL Developer, or related utility operations data preferred.
β’ Experience with PL/SQL, XML, Power Query, Power BI data modeling, DAX, Microsoft Fabric, cloud data warehousing, or AWS-based data environments preferred.
β’ Strong executive-ready communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information clearly, summarize findings, and influence decisions with technical and non-technical audiences.
