Senior Data Engineer (Contract) 📍 Location: London (Hybrid) 🏦 Sector: Financial Services 📄 Engagement Type: Contract Role Overview One of our clients is seeking experienced Senior Data Engineers to support the design, build, and operation of production-grade data pipelines in a complex, large-scale regulated environment. You will work closely with internal engineering teams to improve data reliability, pipeline performance, and long-term system sustainability. Embedded within the organisation, you will contribute directly to critical systems used in daily operations. This engagement offers exposure to technically demanding environments, autonomy in delivery, and the opportunity to work on high-impact data infrastructure initiatives. Key Responsibilities • Design and evolve well-governed, trustworthy data models and datasets • Build and operate batch and streaming pipelines with strong observability and testing • Stabilise unreliable systems and resolve data quality issues • Improve system performance and reduce operational overhead • Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, security, and application teams • Make and communicate technical trade-offs (latency vs cost, flexibility vs complexity, speed vs sustainability) • Produce clear technical documentation and implementation plans • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders Qualifications & Experience • Strong production experience in data engineering environments • Solid computer science fundamentals and data modelling skills • Advanced SQL with strong focus on data quality and lineage • Proficiency in Python for data engineering (e.g. PySpark, Pandas) • Experience with Spark, Athena, Glue, or similar technologies • Cloud experience (AWS preferred) • Understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code and Terraform • Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration concepts • Excellent communication and collaboration skills Engagement Details • Long-term engagement (1 year) with potential extension into 2027 • Hybrid model: 3 days per week in Central London • Very competitive rate • Start date: Immediate (subject to background checks and onboarding) Eligibility • Applicants must be legally authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
