Senior Data Engineer – Contract | London | Up to £1300/day A leading hedge fund is seeking a Senior Data Engineer Consultant to join its high-performing team on a 6-month rolling contract. This is a hybrid London-based role with the potential to convert to permanent for the right candidate. This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned engineer with deep experience in building robust data pipelines from diverse sources—including web scrapes, PDFs, and real-time feeds—and a strong grasp of cloud-based infrastructure and database design. Role Overview: You’ll collaborate closely with Research, Engineering, and Trading teams to deliver mission-critical data onboarding initiatives that directly support investment decision-making. The role demands both technical depth and the ability to communicate effectively across functions. Key Responsibilities: • Design and optimize ETL pipelines for alternate data sources • Build scalable solutions for real-time and batch data ingestion • Implement and manage SQL Server and cloud-based databases • Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements and manage vendor relationships • Continuously evaluate new tools to improve data quality and efficiency Required Experience: • 5+ years in data engineering, with strong ETL and real-time processing skills • Advanced Python skills; C++ knowledge is a plus • Proficient in SQL and SQL Server • Experience with cloud platforms and data infrastructure • Strong analytical and algorithmic thinking • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement Desirable Skills: • Experience with Google Cloud Platform • Familiarity with big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) • Understanding of data governance and compliance This is a high-impact role with competitive day rates up to £1300/day, with flexibility for the right profile.
