DEPARTMENT: Data Protection Office, BBC Chief Operating Group
LOCATION: London base – working 2-3 days in the office and hybrid for the remainder.
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £50,000 - £60,000pa depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Data Protection Office acts as a technical resource to the BBC, providing advice and operational assistance with the practical implementation of complying with relevant data protection legislation, regulation and guidance.
As a Senior Data Privacy Advisor reporting to the Data Protection Officer, you will work as part of the Data Protection Office to ensure that the BBC processes and handles personal data lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner, while facilitating the development and maintenance of products and services to transform business capabilities and enable the next generation of Broadcast and Digital services.

As a Senior Data Privacy Advisor you will play a key role in ensuring data protection compliance and supporting the practical delivery of privacy and assessment of risk into product or service design.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
As a Senior Data Privacy Advisor you will:
Work with the DPO and Operational Privacy Manager to implement systems and controls to ensure compliance with relevant data protection legislation and regulation
Be proficient in the BBC's privacy by design process, providing technical and practical knowledge, insight and guidance to peers and colleagues pan-BBC, helping to drive a positive privacy awareness culture throughout the BBC
Support stakeholders to navigate compliant use of personal data for new products, services and changes to business processes
Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments and other privacy risk assessments, with a focus on high risk/complex processing activities
Advise and lead on the drafting of privacy notices
Support the Operational Privacy Manager to maintain the BBC’s Records of Processing Activities and enhance the Data Protection Office’s Privacy Resource database
Collaborate with other teams across the BBC on projects and initiatives. This includes working with other teams and divisions in the broader organisation to define, document and distribute privacy by design best practice and standards
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Experience of working in a data protection compliance role that involves the practical delivery of privacy and assessment of risk into product or service design
Good practical knowledge and application of key data protection legislation (including PECR), and an awareness of upcoming regulatory changes that will impact BBC online products and processes, and internal business services. This will be supported by your demonstrable experience of drafting privacy notices/policies
Experience assessing and drafting complex risk assessments
Experience of working pro-actively collaboratively and business partnering across a diverse range of mid-senior level stakeholders
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Qualified lawyer, law degree or relevant industry qualification (CIPM or equivalent certification showing familiarity with principles of Privacy Programme Management or Practitioner certificate in Data Privacy/Protection or equivalent)
Broadcast, production, start-up or media experience
A mix of public sector and commercial experience
