Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Staff Database Engineer (Contractor) to design, build, and optimize robust data systems across a complex technology environment. This senior-level engineer will lead initiatives in data architecture, scalable pipelines, and operational excellence, playing a key role in the delivery of data solutions across cloud, real-time, and batch platforms.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Data Architecture: Design scalable, high-performance architectures for processing, transforming, and analyzing large-scale data.
β’ Pipeline Development: Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using modern tools for data ingestion from flat files, REST APIs, EHR systems, and streaming sources.
β’ Cloud Infrastructure: Support cloud-based environments (data lakes, warehouses, mesh architectures) for real-time and batch processing.
β’ Stakeholder Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and data science teams to gather requirements and deliver actionable insights.
β’ EHR Integration: Interface with Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and healthcare data standards to ensure accurate, compliant data integration.
β’ System Operations: Own the logging, monitoring, alerting, and incident response for critical data systems.
β’ Coding & Optimization: Use advanced programming (.NET, Java, or Python) and SQL for development and tuning of robust data services.
β’ Documentation & Standards: Develop architectural frameworks and contribute to internal documentation and best practices.
β’ Mentorship & Leadership: Serve as a technical SME, mentoring junior team members and championing engineering excellence.
Qualifications
β’ Experience: 7β10+ years in data engineering, software development, or database systems.
β’ Tool Proficiency: Hands-on experience with SSIS and Azure Data Factory (ADF).
β’ Education: Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fieldβor equivalent practical experience.
β’ Technical Skills:
β’ Expert in SQL and modern data processing frameworks.
β’ Proficient in one or more programming languages (.NET, Java, Python, etc.).
β’ Strong familiarity with Azure, AWS, or GCP.
β’ Experience with streaming/queuing tools like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SNS/SQS.
β’ Knowledge of CI/CD, Terraform, and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
β’ Soft Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
β’ Architecture Knowledge: Familiar with big data patterns (data lake, warehouse, mesh) and API integrations.
