Role description
Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI Training)
About The Role
What if your deep expertise in machine learning could directly determine how the world's most advanced AI systems think, plan, and solve problems?
We're working with leading AI research labs to capture and document how large language models reason step by step — and we need senior ML engineers to lead that effort. You'll author high-fidelity reasoning traces that show exactly how an AI should plan, use tools, and make decisions when tackling complex real-world tasks. The data you create becomes the foundation for training more reliable, capable AI.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for senior-level ML professionals who want to do meaningful, intellectually stimulating work on their own schedule.
• Organization: Alignerr
• Type: Hourly Contract
• Location: Remote
• Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
• Author complex, high-fidelity reasoning traces for sophisticated technical tasks — documenting how an AI should think, plan, and act at each step
• Design structured traces that capture tool use, multi-step decision-making, and logical problem decomposition
• Review and provide expert-level feedback on traces produced by other contributors to maintain rigorous quality standards
• Develop data strategies that help LLMs navigate intricate, real-world scenarios more reliably
• Apply senior architectural insights to ensure reasoning chains are coherent, well-structured, and technically sound
Who You Are
• Experienced machine learning engineer or researcher with deep knowledge of model reasoning and decision-making
• Able to decompose complex, ambiguous problems into clear, logical, well-documented steps
• Familiar with LLM evaluation methodologies, training pipelines, and how model behavior is shaped by training data
• Detail-oriented and rigorous — you hold your own work to a high standard and can articulate your reasoning clearly
• Self-directed and comfortable working independently in an async, remote environment
Nice to Have
• Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or evaluation systems
• Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level), demonstrating elite-level intuition for model performance and feature engineering
• Background in AI safety, alignment research, or advanced prompt engineering
• Experience reviewing or mentoring the technical work of others
Why Join Us
• Work at the frontier of AI development alongside world-class research teams
• Fully remote and flexible — structure your hours around your life, not the other way around
• Intellectually challenging work that directly shapes how next-generation AI reasons and behaves
• Freelance autonomy with the satisfaction of meaningful, high-impact contributions
• Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
