The Role
The Senior Manager, Solar PV Performance - Operations is responsible for leading advanced technical initiatives to diagnose, analyze, and resolve performance and reliability issues in utility-scale solar PV assets. This role will oversee site acceptance, technical asset management, and performance optimization, supporting R&D, warranty claims, and continuous improvement across the operational portfolio.
The role will work closely with Engineering, Finance, Markets, Construction and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) teams. The position reports to the Senior Director of Technology and Asset Performance.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Oversee and validate Site Acceptance Tests, ensuring systems meet contractual and technical requirements before handover.
β’ Develop technical performance KPIs and frameworks to assess and manage asset health and performance across the portfolio.
β’ Prepare and present technical reports and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring actionable outcomes.
β’ Lead technical asset management, directing root cause analysis and corrective actions for reliability and performance issues as they arise.
β’ Oversee periodic IR inspections, IV curve tracing, and performance testing to validate PV module parameters, and validate tracker and inverter performance in the field.
β’ Design and execute field experiments to identify and resolve performance failures, supporting warranty claims and R&D.
β’ Select and manage software tools for data-driven insights during operations, including Loss Waterfall reporting, and provide feedback to Development and Construction teams.
β’ Advise on spare parts strategies by conducting MTTF analysis for breakers, transformers, and other critical components.
β’ Drive performance optimization of renewable energy assets through data-driven warranty tracking, and advising on maintenance strategy.
β’ Support feasibility studies and technical due diligence for new projects or M&A opportunities, ensuring designs meet financial and operational targets.
β’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Construction, O&M and Asset Management, to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
β’ Support internal research on the latest solar technology trends, and resource and production modeling best practices.
Education And Qualifications
β’ Masterβs or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field preferred.
β’ 8+ years of experience in solar PV field diagnostics, performance analysis, or related engineering roles, with a demonstrated track record of leading complex investigations and delivering results.
β’ Deep expertise in solar PV system operation, failure diagnostics, and experimental design.
β’ Proficiency in statistical analysis, data visualization, and root cause analysis tools including FMEA, Fishbone Diagram, and Pareto Analysis.
β’ Experience with industry-standard monitoring and analytics platforms, as well as experience performing timeseries data analysis and automation in Python.
β’ Strong understanding of solar module and inverter technologies, degradation mechanisms, and field-testing protocols.
β’ Strong understanding of solar physics (e.g., plane of array irradiance modelling and single-diode model of a solar cell).
β’ Familiarity with solar resource datasets (e.g., TMY, Solargis, SolarAnywhere) and industry tools (PVsyst, SolarFarmer, Plant Predict, pvlib)
β’ Demonstrated knowledge of, and compliance with the NFPA 70E standard.
β’ Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive initiatives to completion.
