Role description
Position: Senior OpenStack DevOps Engineer Location: California Remote Duration: Contract Rate: DOE U.S. Citizens and those who are authorized to work independently in the United States are encouraged to apply. Requirements • 8–9+ years of experience managing and automating large-scale OpenStack cloud environments • Expert in Infrastructure-as-Code (Ansible, Terraform, Pulumi) • Strong knowledge of OpenStack services: Neutron, Octavia, Manila, Cinder, Nova, Ironic, Glance • Linux systems engineering (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu), scripting (Python, Bash, Go) • Git, CI/CD pipelines, test frameworks • Networking (L2/L3, VXLAN, Geneve), load balancing, storage (iSCSI, NFS, CEPH) • Experience with high-availability and multi-region OpenStack clusters • Container tech (Docker, Kubernetes) a plus • Technical documentation, community contributions a plus • Preferred: Upstream OpenStack contributions, Keystone federation, Barbican, Ceilometer, security best practices, telco/edge cloud background, automated OpenStack test environments, bachelor’s degree or equivalent Responsibilities • Design & implement multi-tenant OpenStack infrastructure aligned with community standards • Automate provisioning, lifecycle management & configuration using IaC tools • Maintain and extend integrations for core OpenStack services (Neutron, Octavia, Manila, Cinder, Nova, Ironic, Glance) • Contribute to upstream OpenStack projects (bug fixes, drivers, docs) • Build CI/CD pipelines for OpenStack updates, testing & rollbacks • Develop monitoring, alerting, and healing mechanisms with GitOps and observability tools (Prometheus, Loki, Grafana) • Ensure HA, disaster recovery, and scale-out operations • Troubleshoot and optimize OpenStack performance across control & data planes • Participate in on-call rotation, incident response, and RCA for reliability issues
