Role description
Senior Payroll Manager Contract: 6–9-month FTC (potential to extend) Location: Homebased (UK) – occasional travel Salary: £45,000–£65,000pa, pro-rata (DOE) Start date: Immediate About the Role We’re seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations and drive payroll transformation projects across the organisation. This senior role focuses on compliance, system improvements, governance, and process standardisation, ensuring payroll is not just accurate and compliant, but efficient, scalable, and future-ready. What You’ll Be Doing • Oversee and deliver accurate, compliant payroll (PAYE, NI, pensions) on time. • Lead payroll system improvements, automation, and standardisation projects. • Act as the senior payroll expert, resolving complex issues and ensuring audit/governance standards are met. • Provide robust reporting and insights to senior leadership to support decision-making. • Guide and support the Payroll Manager and wider team through change. • Champion data quality, governance, and integration across payroll functions. What We’re Looking For • Proven leadership in end-to-end payroll within complex or multi-site environments. • Strong track record delivering payroll change projects, process improvement, and standardisation. • In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, governance, and HMRC compliance. • Advanced data and reporting skills (Excel/Power BI desirable). • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. • Experience with PeopleXD or similar payroll systems (desirable, not essential). • Healthcare sector experience a plus, but not required.
