Shopify Technical Lead - Remote

Candidates must be open to quarterly travel to Austin, TX area. Shopify Plus Technical Lead - Responsibilities: • Lead the technical delivery of headless Shopify Plus commerce solutions, from discovery and architecture through implementation and launch • Partner with Solution Strategists, Product, UX, and Delivery teams to define headless commerce architectures, integration approaches, and technical tradeoffs • Design and implement custom storefronts using Shopify Hydrogen (Remix), React, and TypeScript, following modern frontend and composable commerce best practices • Own and evolve GraphQL-based integrations leveraging Shopify Storefront and Admin APIs to support scalable, high-performance commerce experiences • Provide technical leadership during requirements gathering, translating business needs into maintainable, extensible technical designs • Produce and review high-level technical architecture and design documentation for headless storefronts, APIs, and integrations Requirements: • Shopify & Headless Architecture • Strong experience delivering Shopify Plus solutions using headless architecture • Deep expertise with Shopify Hydrogen (Remix-based) and custom headless storefront implementations • Advanced understanding of Shopify Storefront GraphQL API and Admin GraphQL API • Experience designing and consuming GraphQL-first data models and workflows Frontend Engineering • Advanced proficiency in React with TypeScript • Strong understanding of modern frontend patterns: server-side rendering (SSR), streaming, caching, and performance optimization • Experience building scalable component systems and frontend architectures for commerce Backend & Integrations • Proven experience building and integrating custom Shopify apps (Node.js–based preferred) • Hands-on experience integrating Shopify with external systems such as ERP, OMS, WMS, PIM, CMS, and third-party SaaS platforms • Experience with authentication models, webhooks, background jobs, and event-driven architectures Commerce & Platform Expertise • Strong understanding of Shopify commerce concepts including products, variants, collections, pricing, discounts, inventory, orders, and fulfillment • Experience with Shopify configuration, instance management, and multi-store or multi-region setups • Familiarity with data migration and synchronization strategies across platforms Preferred Qualifications • 5+ years of experience in modern ecommerce or digital product development • Prior experience migrating legacy or monolithic commerce platforms to headless Shopify • Experience with Remix, Next.js, or other modern React frameworks • Familiarity with composable commerce patterns and MACH principles • Comfortable evaluating and adopting emerging web and commerce technologies • Strong collaboration skills working with product, UX, and solution architecture teams
